tryfuhl 03-03-2010, 01:23 AM I'm really glad he's not coming back. Not that I wouldnt love Chris Samuels on the feild, but the thought of him risking the rest of his life is just crazy. He's thirty something, has all the money he could ask for... just live life with your family, Chris. You deserve it....Thanks for everything.
That's what it is to me, the lives of these people that sacrifice themselves for my entertainment far outweigh the possibilities. If you told me today that we could win a SB with him, but then he'd become paralyzed, I'd take another 4-12 without question. There's a life outside of and above sports and this is a great example of it. My biggest hope is that Chris can lead an outstanding life from here on out.
CRedskinsRule 03-03-2010, 08:01 AM Is this supposed to make a case for the draft QB crowd and the resulting hidden premise that having a good QB means not a stud LT is not necessary?
It was more a snarky way of pointing out that you need a whole team, OL, great QB, strong defense to win. You have to be able to plan and take advantage of the draft, free agency, and roster veterans to create a team that will compete year in, year out. We haven't seen that in a decade, and if MS/BA can accomplish it, regardless of what position they take in the first round of the draft, then that will be outstanding.
mlmdub130 03-03-2010, 06:43 PM got to meet samuels about a month ago out at redskins park he is a cool dude, just sat there and bs'ed with him for a while, talked about how he wants to coach and wants to stay in the area, i have no idea why.
he was always the player i gave s, but he really was one of the best redskins of the past decade sucks to see him go but it is by far the right thing to do. hopefully we can fill his spot with someone who can have half of ther consistancy he gave us. be interesting to hear his thoughts when he gives his retirement speech

I hope he has the chance to coach in the area. I always loved that Samuels embraced the culture and the history of the Redskins, and always seemed so enthusiastic about the idea of retiring in burgundy. Glad he gets to do that, and on his own terms.
Sucks to see CS go, he definitely had some more years left in him.
GTripp0012 03-03-2010, 07:37 PM It'll be interesting to see what kind of role Randy Thomas plays this year. Unless you count Dockery, he really is the last piece of the old guard that's still here. I have to imagine he will be the day one RG, but if he makes it to Week 3, that will be 2 times in the last 4 seasons he's plugged all the way to late September.
With that said, Thomas is still very clearly our best lineman, when healthy. But at this point, I'm not even sure that's average.
If they bring Thomas back you would think it would have to be as a backup only.
GTripp0012 03-03-2010, 07:51 PM If they bring Thomas back you would think it would have to be as a backup only.I would think that with the current status quo at the position, he and Dockery are the opening day guards. And I don't believe a late round draft choice would change that.
In addition, the players on the FA market who have experience in the Shanahan-Shanahan system primarily have played LG.
Rinehart could beat him out again this year, it's more than possible and would be a great thing for the long term status of the line, but in the absence of that occuring, I think RT's starting job is safe.
I think we'll look in at bringing in both Wiegmann and Hamilton to play the Center position, but feel confident that the depth chart at RG will either be Thomas-Rinehart (Rinehart-Thomas?), or Thomas-late round rookie.

I agree with this but they need to rip up his old contract first.

Isn't Big Mike just as good or better than Rinehart?
