I think if we sign Willie Parker then Portis is gone. It's just a hunch on my part, but from the beginning I believed Shanny will draft a RB and have probably one other main carrier on the roster. Portis looked awful most of last season and then of course there's the concussion. With LT, Westbrook showing how quickly even great RBs hit their wall I think the FO looks to dump Portis soon.

The only way Portis is gone this year is if he refuses to work. I know that a lot of people are begging that they let him go but there are 7 million guaranteed reasons why BA and MS WANT Portis to be the guy this year.

Portis isn't going to be dropped without a clear replacement being in the building. Dropping Portis and putting in Parker would be a significant downgrade.

The 'Skins get to keep a steady Carter, who on paper, was just as productive as Julius Peppers last season for a third of the price. It's also worth noting that Andre Carter is only 8 months older than Peppers.

I know that the thread has moved on a bit, but I wanted to point out some great analysis here. Two fantastic points, that I was previously unaware of. Thanks 12th Man.

Giantone... you usually are a pretty good sport about your posts. You are coming off very aggressive. For a team who fell apart last year.

YES you guys overpaid for Rolle. Glad it was you and not us.

And yes AH was overpaid. Way to point out the obvious.

Thereis a new regime. these guys will build our teams of the future to beat you. They may not have done much the last few years, but all they needed was some new scenery. We will get it done.

You put Rolle and Kenny Phillips back there together and you have already upgrade to 1 of the top DB groups in the NFC.
I realize there is a "new regime" as you put it .....................and no it's not being aggressive at all just wondering ,the Skins have always treaded FA like there was no cap,now there is no cap so other teams are doing what it was the Skins did when there was a cap.Point........this might have been the time for the Skins to open up instead of sit on the side lines.Does AH play NG.....he doesn't want to,so now what, make him a 3point DE???Had you guys got Peppers and put Haynsworth at nose and Orakpo at outside Lber.....no joke holy shit 1 of if not they best D side in the NFC.

Wasn't sure where to put this so I figured I'd slide it in here. The Redskins have lost another former player, Perry Brooks. Father of 49er and former UVA player Ahmad Brooks.

Sorry, I hate to burst your bubble but Kenny Phillips is probably done. They wouldn't have needed Rolle if Phillips was going to be able to play the way he did before he got hurt.

The Bears and Seattle are the only teams acting like Vinny Cerrato. We are choosing to spend WISELY this year. There are plenty of signings left in our future, just no overspending.

If we sign Kemo and a linebacker we will be just as formidable up front. Hell, we may play Phat Al at linebacker. Haslett says he can do it.

And not only that, but the Giants hardly had a stalwart defense to begin with last year. They broke down over and over again at the most critical points in the game. I think Rolle is pretty good, but the Giants will still have issues on defense.

I actually agree here. I've hated the Skins approach in the past, but this season was a year where I would have liked to have thrown some money at Rolle to have him HERE. We can do the measured approach thing when there IS a cap. I mean maybe it's more than just money, like maybe how the players feel in the locker room based on contracts, but overall I think we could have been just a little more aggressive.

I would be upset if we cut all those guys, talk about the status quo being over and then sign a safety for 37 million.

Wonder if that's who the rumors Smoot mentioned were about

No I already knew about Fargas, it's someone else who I still haven't figured out yet.
