Defensewins 03-05-2010, 11:55 AM Well, reasonable priced free agents are just about the only thing available. Unfortunately there isn't a marquee offensive lineman available in free agency (UFA). Which is why I hope they still draft a first or second round tackle.
I am glad there is not one available.
We need to become good again at acquiring and developing our own own young and talented OL. Not getting someone elses left overs.
In the Snyder era it seems like when we picked up FA OL from another team they either become injury prone (Thomas) or their best playing days are behind them (Dockery/Rabach). We were the oldest team on the NFL last year, so having so many injuries and being 4-12 should not have been a big surprise.

I meant a marquee UFA, sort of what Jason Brown was last year. I could be wrong, but I don't think we've ever gone after a young talented offensive lineman in the last couple of seasons. Except for Dockery, we always seemed to pick up old guys to patch things up.

Yes, I hope we still do and think we will. But, the fact they are no overpriced free agents Olineman could be a blessing in disguise. But more relieving is we havent done something completely stupid and given Peppers 70-90 million dollar contract right off the bat...

Offensive tackle Tony Pashos set to visit Redskins today
This is about 8 months too late (thanks, Vinny). Still it is a good move.
As far as some comments above go, we need a total OL makeover in terms of both starters and depth. So I can see us signing 3-4 free agents on the OL and still drafting as many as three guys.
freddyg12 03-05-2010, 12:10 PM Fred Smoot: I went to four redskin games two earlier in your career at Washington and when you came back. Each time you showed love to the fans in the stands, while Darrel Green snubbed his nose and walked right on by. And you were the same guy at the last two games. Thanks
Rock Cartright: Thanks, tough guy, solid special teamer, seemed like a good teamate and very coachable.
Antwan Randell El: Always said the right things, it just didnt work out. (did he ever return a punt for a TD as a Redskin?)
Todd Collins: Ill never forget "THE PLAYOFF RUN" and the Famed "COllins to Yoder Combination" against da bears!! You my friend are a true professional!
Randy Thomas: Injuries just kept him from being a beast. Man but when you pulled around and led Betts on the sweep against the cowgirls and Betts hit Terrence Newman right square in the back!!!! I loved it, Parcells thought otherwise.lmao
Laddell Betts: Ran as hard as any back, i liked you so much it really hurt me to curse you everytime you fumbled. sometimes
Loved all those guys, nice summary.
ARE returned a punt v. Indy in 06 for a td, I believe that was his only one.

ONE, in 2006. :(
I was SO excited when we signed him too, he was a completely different player in Pittsburgh and was a wrecking ball at Indiana...I'm not sure what happened when he arrived here. Great personality...loved him as a person, not as a player though. Same sentiment for Smoot too.

Free agent defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch agrees to a four-year, $26 million deal with Lions.

Replace Rabach...don't care how old he is, it's a huge upgrade:

Meanwhile, Titans center Kevin Mawae has drawn a lot of interest from teams at the start of free agency, according to his agent.
Mawae, a 16-year veteran, became a free agent late Thursday. The Titans have told him they’d like for him to return as a back-up, but Mawae is looking for a starting job elsewhere.
“We are talking to a lot of people,’ agent Mark Bartelstein said. “Kevin has a lot of family stuff going on, so he is not dying to jump on a plane and fly all over the country. He has been in the league, he knows everybody, all the situations, so he doesn’t need to get wined and dined. We may end up making a visit here and there, but it is more conversations right now.’’
The Broncos and Redskins are among the teams believed to be interested. Bartelstein said Mawae could sign without making a trip.
“We have a bunch of people we’re talking to and hopefully we can get this done pretty soon,’’ Bartelstein said.

So Rabach would play guard?
Not sure how much real interest there is considering Rabach just re-signed, unless they were to move him to guard which doesn't seem likely.
