We are about to re-up Rabach. I don't think this is a good idea, he is nothing more than a backup in this league at this point in his career. Hopefully he won't be the next Jon Jansen

Yup, I misread this one completely CRedskins. I guess I'll bring up a new question...why does there seem to be two different opinions on Rabach? I personally saw him not play well at all, and I thought a number of botched snaps were partially his fault (esp those from shotgun) for example. But it seems as though the team wants to keep him.

Is it the lack of talent out there that causes the team to keep him? Or is there something that us fans are missing in regards to his play?

I wonder if this is the reason (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/jason-reid/redskins-rabach-in-contract-ta.html) why fans don't think that taking a tackle with the #4 is not necessary...

Really? Three starters?? So with this mentality, we just need two starters to get our line up to speed. I just don't get it. I thought that our line was horrible from top to bottom. We have two guys that should hang it up, and I honestly think Dockery is the only good one out of that bunch.

I think you mis-read it, the quote said with 3 NEW starters, so both Tackles and either a guard or center, leaves Dock as the only solid returning vet. I am definitely in the let Rabach go camp, but that's just frustration with the whole line talking.

Weird. Per Real Redskins:

"Heard that the #Redskins have made no effort to sign starting C Casey Rabach. He will be a UFA"

Well, I can see why you want to keep maybe the line signal caller .. especially if nobody THAT much better is available. I don't know; during the Vikes game 2 years ago the announcer said Rabach was having a Pro Bowl type season. Maybe there's something that we're not seeing, I'd love to know what it is if so.

PFF has him ranked pretty low the past couple of years

I honestly feel Rabach is a good back-up....with the emphasis on...back-up.

I honestly think Heyer would be better suited as a guard.

He's been a pretty darn important piece...of a unit that has been pretty crappy overall.

He'd probably be less of a disaster if Shanahan allows the quarterback to call his own protections, but he's still going to get killed against larger nose tackles in the running game, and by anyone with two legs in the passing game.

The FO re-signing Rabach could indicate two important things. Maybe Shanahan and Co see Rabach as a good fit in the zone blocking scheme because he's mobile. To his credit Rabach seems to take excellent care of himself and stay healthy, so the coaches probably see him as a guy they could coach up. It also could indicate they expect to replace other positions along the oline, so Rabach's continuity alongside Dock is a plus.

What bothers me most about Rabach is his propensity toward mistakes. Poor snaps in the shotgun, penalties on big plays, and I have to believe some of the piss-poor protection calls along the interior were his fault. If he can be coached up in these areas, while excelling in the new scheme, then Rabach totally redeems himself.
