Of course, Portis wants to play for Shanny. There's no guarantee he would play much anywhere else.

I say we sign Pierre Thomas. He would be so good in the zone blocking scheme. He hits the hole hard, and I think he was underutilized in New Orleans.

HA HA HA!!! Okay, we snagged Haynesworth with a ba-jillion dolalr baited hook, but i doubt the saints are gonna let him go after the season they just had. Keep dreamin!

It was a good thing the Saints won the Super Bowl.. According to Shefter, over half the players on the team are up for new contracts this offseason. 18 RFA's and 11 UFA's, plus they are certain to extend Brees with a long term deal. So they can't pay everyone.

Which means they are probably going to get cherry picked.

Put our points together. A handfull of Saints are probably gonna want more money. Brees no doubt deserves it, but so does Brady. Brees may pull a Brady and NOT ask for a ton of money to ensure the team's longevity as a contender by freeing money for a great supporting cast.

Bell is gonna be a free agent. Now i seriosly doubt they will try harder to keep Bell than keep Pierre Thomas. Statisticly he's just barely above everyone else. He's been as important as Reggie Bush. If they keep Bush and Thomas, Bell can be replaced cheaply from within, thus a more likely option for other teams... unless he wants to leave. I bet Bell is out and Thomas will stay. But there really isn't any telling.

Yeah, and who knows what the price tag for some of those defenders is going to be. There are two O-Linemen (Bushrod and Brown) that are going to be RFA's and every other team in the league that values upright QB's tend to spend well on their lines, so we'll see which way they go.

Most people believe Reggie Bush is gone because he's due to make $20mil over the next two years, and while he has bona fide game-changing skills, is he worth that kind of dough by default? I don't see it. (And surely, neither do the Saints). But maybe they keep Reggie and Pierre and resign Brees, leaving one or both of their RFA OT's vulnerable?

I don't think he's going to break Riggo's record.
He'll probably average 4.0 YPC AT BEST and get around 243 carries in a season(frequent trend in Shanahan's offense) and in Shanny's run game, a 4.0 YPC is actually below average.

No. Sign Peyton Hillis(Ideally, McDaniels the dummy cuts him). The dude's a great reciever AND is a good power back. He's also come with a cheaper price tag.

Portis wants to get those fat paychecks that are coming to him so long as his contract stays in place. NO team in the league will sign him as a free agent to anything nearly that lucrative; I am positive that his agent has explained that to him.

If the Skins release him, he will get whatever guaranteed money is still due him and then he is off signing small contracts to try to catch on with other teams. The model here is Shaun Alexander or Ahman Green late in their careers.

And this year it is possible that Portis would be only the 3rd most desirable "aging running back" on the market. LaDanian Tomlinson may be available and so may Brian Westbrook. The benefit that either of them brings to the table is that neither of those guys is known as a "pain in the ass". Oh, and their resumes as running backs are at least as good as Portis' resume too.

i think hell be fine and should be successful splitting carries this year in a run first system.

he wont be cut. hell be a Skin this year.

I like it, older CP or not.. he deserves one more.. at least.
