GusFrerotte 01-31-2010, 03:38 PM The pro-bowl has always been a joke, but like your thread title suggests, it's at an all time low. There's been at least a half dozen guys selected for the pro-bowl this year who are suddenly "injured" and can't play. Then you get another half a dozen from the Super Bowl teams who need to be replaced. Now this thing with McKinnie (Julius Peppers also missed a practice unexcused).
I mean, I'm sure these guys are happy to be named Pro-bowlers, but NO ONE gives a sh*t about playing in the game. Let's be honest, the only reason participation by selected players has been so high in the past in because the games has always been in Hawaii.
I'm going to the movies tonight with my fiancee. I have zero desire to watch the game.
Edit: I just read that 31 players originally selected will not play because of the Super Bowl and injuries. 31!!! What a joke. It's like the JV pro-bowl.
Good call GM, your fiancee is a lucky woman. Could never see why folks would want to watch such a meaningless game either. The NFL should just do like the NCAA does, just name All Americans and let them meet the president or something. The honor itself is what matters. Give the players a ring. Having themelves get beat up for another 60 minutes isn't much of a reward.
GusFrerotte 01-31-2010, 03:39 PM Perhaps the Pro Bowl should be played in the preseason or in mid-season like the MLB All-star game.
You might be on to something LOTUS. Have the Pro Bowl as the Hall of Fame Game.
GusFrerotte 01-31-2010, 03:44 PM Someone on the radio suggested that the Pro Bowl be played the week after the super bowl, and that it should be played overseas instead of a team losing a home game.
This, in turn, would have players excited for the the pro bowl (new city, bigger buzz about the game for ex-pats overseas/football fans, etc.) I think this is a great idea. I hate teams losing a home game overseas, and this makes the pro bowl interesting. Even the best players want a free trip overseas.
Dude, they might as well just go back to Hawaii. It is overseas and is an absolute paradise. Nothing, I mean nothing compares to it!!!!! If you can't get players to go to Hawaii with their gf, wife or kids, nothing is going to motivate them to go. Europe is cold as hell in February. Africa is just a dump, along with most of Central and South America. Uruguay and Argentina are nice, but Hawaii beats them hands down. Belize is nice, but I am not sure they have a decent stadium.

I agree. Not only is it a total joke but look at two of the AFC QB's. Vince Young and David Garrard. lol. Goddell needs to just realize that having the game during the SB week only waters it down more than it already is. Either go back to the old way or just do away w/ it all together.

Yeah going to play a game in cold rainy London or Berlin really doesn't seem like a good idea.

That's a pretty good idea.

sweet idea
I'm sure people would take hawaii over london any day though.. not to mention it's still domestic, guys don't have to do as much travel-wise to prepare for it.. oh and the weather and relaxation are great after a long hard season that ends in winter.. who wants to play in rain when it's absolutely brutal outside in europe or something?
mlmdub130 01-31-2010, 04:55 PM the pro bowl has turned into a joke it is just like the nba all star game/dunk contest, it used to mean something now it is just a popularity contest and with it being open to fan voting just demeans it further, it should be left to the writers, i have more respect for players that make the all pro team than i do for any of the over hyped guys that make the probowl
Just keep it in Hawaii the week after the SB. The game is more about the players anyway, the fans are just never going to care no matter how hard the league tries.
mredskins 02-01-2010, 08:27 AM I watched about 30 minutes of it. Just watch the lines during a play, they barely even touch each other! They just stand up out of their stance and play patty cakes.
Was there even a sack recorded?
