Surprised nobody has mentioned that Rhodes spent this year in Ryan's doghouse and was benched at one point. I know it's the in thing to hate on Landry, but I'm puzzled as to why we would want to trade one problem for another.

No way...I think Landry has more talent then Rhodes and I would like to see what the new coaching staff can get out of him.

I agree but i also think Blache misused Landry a bit but then again it's hard to replace a Sean Taylor type of player. Truth is ST spoiled a lot of people because he was so good and one of a kind playmaker. It's like going from a Mercedes to a Honda but you can't expect Landry to be a stud FS he's never been a good coverage safet. He can and would be a stud SS he's out of position clearly that still doesn't warrant a trade it just means put him back at SS.

Orange tic tacs are solid tacklers and don't get easily beat by the double move. LOL.
My thoughts exactly. And if you can get the bologna fried I would through in a Fair Catch Specialist.
Seriously though, I have had faith in Landry up until this year. He has the athleticism to be good but makes horrible decisions/takes terrible angles. Vs. the Falcons it looked like he was trying to put himself into position not to make plays. I re-watched almost every play this year, even playing SS up on the line he disappointed taking bad angles/attacking the wrong gap. His best tackles are when people are already going OOB otherwise he ducks his head dives and hopes a shoulder knocks the person off balance. He can be coached up but either he or his attitude must go.
***P.S. I would prefer he play like everyone thinks he can/Underachievers with no sense of remorse for poor desicions get little respect from me. We have many other needs to address.

Looks like the jets are willing to trade Kerry Rhodes , apparently Ryan wants a more agrresive safety... Well how bout landry for Rhodes? Could we do it and would you do? Rhodes, Sheppard among Jets expected to take off | ProFootballTalk.com (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/26/rhodes-sheppard-among-jets-expected-to-take-off/)
I would only do it if we get something else in the trade.
Rhodes plus a 3rd/4th round pick.
I have no doubt that Landry would excell in Ryan's system.
And i think that Rhodes would be good for us, but i think that Landry has the higher ceiling.

Yeah, it's a dumb thread in so far as this isn't going to happen (players at the same position are virtually never traded for each other in the NFL, only recent trade I can think of off the top of my head is Coles for Moss) but the implied question, whether you would theoretically rather have Landry or Rhodes, is interesting. For me it's a no-brainer, Rhodes by a mile. For those who defend LL, if he wasn't the sixth pick in the draft would you still be talking about his potential? I mean, for all the discussion of what a big fast strong athlete he is (and I guess he jumped high at the combine or whatever) he doesn't look that fast out there to me. He looks like a guy. He gets burned, he gets run over, he misses tackles. He's just a body. Even back when ST was getting caught out of position, before he had learned Williams' defense, you could still see he was a superior athlete. I think if you didn't know that Landry had been a high draft pick you would be hard-pressed to identify him as someone with potential.
landry got exposed this year on double moves, etc just like hall, rogers and smoot.
what i dont understand about his lack of coverage skills this year is that last season he seemed to play the FS really well, taking away alot of deep balls while being isolated way back there to cover from sideline to sideline. and he was able to do it, with teams going less long ball imo last year.
then this year, he got schooled more than a few times. i read an article touching on this point. it said that at first he was told to stay back and not let anything behind him (like he did last year). then he was told to play aggressive and watch/play the reciever and not the ball/qb. this lead to confusion on what he was supposed to do.
i tried to find the article but couldnt, it came out a week or two ago. but it really addressed the most plausible reason for landry lack of cover skills this year.
as for his tackling, he needs to do a better job and stop trying to hit stick everyone.
man i wish i could find that article.

Not a good idea. We really had an under performing coaching staff. It was embarrassing at times last season.
Landry has the skills to be a stud safety in the NFL once he is properly coached up by a qualified staff and put in the proper scheme. It would be a big mistake to unload him because of one really bad season. Landry's problems can easily be corrected with time and patience.
What interested me more in this article was Lito Shepard being available. He would be a great replacement for Smoot (nickle back CB) who is getting long in the tooth. With no cap this year you can front load a contract to get him and not pay the price when the cap returns the following year. I am ok with keeping Smoot as a nickle/dime Safety, but he does not have the speed to be an every down CB.
We need insurance at CB in case Kevin Barnes and Justin Tryon do not pan out, which up to this point they are not yet there.

A) Is Horton going to be our starter next year at FS or LaRon?
B) Is Rhodes a better FS than LL?
C) If A & B are true, than lets trade Laron for him and a few picks
D) It's prefectly fine if we don't do C) because we have LARGER needs at other positions, safety we have depth, especially at SS
horton at FS? I don't think so lol

I think that Landry just needs to be coached up and let a bit more free. I don't doubt that the sentiments from the Tom Friend article about db's/s's still reign true in which they have too much to think about beforehand. We saw it happen with ST until he basically got free reign as well.
I wouldn't mind having Rhodes or picking up Clark in the offseason, maybe Sean Jones from the Eagles, but I don't think that Landry has reached his peak by any means. I couldn't see this trade happening either way, but stranger has happened I suppose.
