Trample the Elderly

In a few months I'll be moving and I'll need a new entertainment set up. What I want to do is this, I want my computer to do everything for me that my telephone, television, and radio used to do in one package. Now I've already got a top of the line HP that can do everything. Since I don't really watch television, is it possible for me to order the NFL and NASCAR throught the net? I already stream all of my radio through my computer and run it through my stereo. Is there a way, or something that I can buy, to be able to use my phone through the NET? We used to have a service overseas back in 2000 but it blew. I assume that there are better services these days? What if there was something I wanted to see on the History or National Geographic Channel? Could I order just the show I want to see through a stream? What about a political debate? Could I order that through a Alphabet stream? I'm not a tech guy so . . . . .

I have a friend who is a tech guy , for about 20 years now . When he gets back into town later this week I will ask him. I thought Verizon offered a package like that , but I could be wrong ? I do believe you can get NASCAR and NFL Network online , I think RH is going to paint that 88 car black , now lil E needs to grind some sheet metal like the old man did and win . Good luck to fat boy :)

I know that there's an online NFL package, I've seen people mention it. As far as streaming a show you want to watch, you're probably better off just downloading the episode or looking for it on the network's website if it's available. It really depends on what you're looking for as far as if it will be available, all of that is dependent on the station, but most stuff can be found via newsgroups, torrents, etc.

If you want an actual tv provider subscription you can just slap a tv tuner card or external box along with your computer.

You can use a home based VOIP provider like Vonage or something similar for your phone which is only 25/month and comes with a lot of features, usually running some sort of promotion. With Vonage you'd use pretty much whatever phone, they provide the converter box. Alternatively you could use something like Skype which is a bit cheaper, but not so "true" of a phone service, however you can purchase minutes cheaply (about 2c a min or unlimited for 3 bucks and up a month) as well as buy a number to allow others to call you (18 bucks per 3 months or 60 for a year.. if you do the monthly subscription they usually drop this 50 pct). Voicemail used to be included with the in-number but now it's 6 bucks every 3 months or 20 for a year.. though I think it's free if you do the monthly subscription. With this you'd use either a headset, pair of headphones and microphone, or a Skype compatible phone.

Echoing what tryful said, I've been a Vonage customer for 4 years, and we use the Residential Basic 500 package ($17.99/month) and I've never had any issues with it. And since we don't use it much, and don't call overseas, we didn't spending the extra money. Skype or Google Voice would also be additional options.

I've been seriously considering dropping cable for a while now. Between Hulu, Fancast, Netflix, and all the other streaming resources, it's becoming harder and harder to spend the cash on it. Plus a good bit of our TV viewing is from DVR, so if I have to wait a while to watch something, so be it. Being in a fringe area, I'd have to spend some cash on a decent TV Antenna, but might be worth it.

NASCAR has RaceView as part of their TrackPass packaging. That would cover your NASCAR events.

Not sure what the NFL has, but there are various streams and such online that you can use (not as reliable, but they are out there). It's an added expense, but Sirius would cover a lot of Sports Radio Programming. Or if you wanted just NFL, there is NFL FieldPass.

already there!

So how come you're not handing out food and meds instead of posting on a Redskins Board?

There is definitely something perverse about you starting a thread asking for help with your HD setup after going out of your way to tell everyone you wouldn't be helping the Haiti effort. I'm not saying I'm person of the year or anything, one could certainly judge me too, but this thread and its timing just look wretchedly awful imo.

I already helped the Haiti effort with my tax dollars. Writing a few lines about computer stuff costs nothing.
