For our Defense's Sake!!!!

There is no question as to how Good our Defense has been all season. Even with Backups, we are still one of the Top D's in the NFL. Unfortunately, this success has not come without injuries. Currently, nearly half of our Starting D is out, questionable, probable or just plain niched up. 2 Weeks ago, Smoot nearly broke his own shoulder by unselfishly throwing his body around nearly singlehandedly ensuring the Skins a win. However, this can't go on forever. The defense cannot play like this every week (even though it is in their hearts) and still be expected to be one of the top defenses at the end of the season when the wins will definitely be needed.

There is only one thing that can be done. The Skins Offense has got to step up and pay back the Defense for their unselfish dedication. I don't care who it is QB wise, one of them need to play like their job depends on it (and who knows it just might) The O line needs to protect Brunell like he is a glass figure. He needs the time to get comfortable and gain his confidence back. I know it's alot to ask for 170+ plus yards from Portis every game, but 100+ this week and every other week for the rest of the season would be nice. Oh yeah..and let's not foget Betts, just keep it up. Betts as always been there for us to count on no matter what his role is. Receivers.....it's simple..just catch the ball if it's near you. You guys have dropped too many passes this year and Brunells confidence might be suffering from it. Tight Ends...hmm..do we have any? LOL..Royal and Coolie, you guys need to do whatever it takes. Special Teams...just need to make sure we tackle. Don't miss them and break those wedges. Morton (if he is playing) has to play smart (like in the Dallas game when he purposely caught the ball out of bounds, that was the smartest play I have ever seen by a KR) and hold onto the Football.

Ok enough said. I know some of it is written as if I am actually writing to the players..but who knows maybe they do read this...LOL..yeah right. Anyways, the Offense needs to step it up and play smart. The D needs a lead so they can just relax a little bit and rest up. They have been playing every play all season like it was a game deciding play. And for most of it, they were.

All comments are welcome and read.

Our D is gonna get exposed this week. Not that its not good it is, but the backups are not gonna be able to hold up against Green Bay. The only way we win this game is for our offense to finally break out and play to its potential. But with brunnel at QB i don't see it happening.

The best defense against GB is to rock Favre. Send all 11.

or keep them off the field by runing the ball all day long...Portis is the key to this game

Our D has been playing without the same starters for the majority of the season so far, so the line-up won't be that different. Taylor screwed them (and us) over, but Lott and Clark have stepped up in their play and have looked good. That said, yeah, GB will give them more of a challenge and they will have to step up, but as dragontat7169 has said, more importantly, the offense HAS to get something going. Feed the ball to Portis, protect Brunell, complete passes, and keep Favre and Green off the field.

Our #1 ranked defense will be severely tested this week. So far the injuries we've sustained have not stopped our defense from performing. No matter who's been hurt we've been able to get the job done, remarkable coaching job by G. Williams. Probably the biggest difference is this year we are getting off the field on 3rd down. If our offense can convert on third down this week we should be able to win. Gibbs will figure it out, hopefully this week.

We will be tested, not exposed. Why do you think our defense is so good? Its certinaly not the players we have per-say. While there are a TON of great taletns on that feild, its nothing different than we have had the past few years. ITS COACHING!!! So I think Williams will come up with a plan for the defense, to face Green Bay, and I think he could be successful. This is defintley the best offense we face up to this point, by far. I dont expect the defense to not give up aything like in weeks past, but I certinaly belive that they can keep it close and our offense can hopefully wake up and score some points. If we have the same offense that we have had to date, I dont care how good our defense plays, it wont be good enough to win..

Don't get me wrong..I agree that Williams is one of the keys to the success of this Defense..if not the main factor. My point being that the Defense has played excellant even with backups. But how much more injury can the D withstand? If too many players get hurt (and I am hoping this NEVER happens), the D will have to rely on less talented and experienced backups. The backups we have now have done a tremendous job but it is time for the O to step up. I think it is truly time for Coach Gibbs to remind everyone why he is a Hall of Fame Coach by getting this offense going. I know he can do it. If anyone can, Joe can. I don't care who is at the helm. Coach Gibbs has enough experience and knowledge to motivate the worst player. Look at what he did with his other Super Bowl QB's. In all honesty, they weren't as good as Brunell..except for maybe Theismann. None of them lasted more than a year or two after winning a Super Bowl. Coach Gibbs has a way of taking a not so good QB and making him Great for a year or two. Just give him a chance.

Yeah we are missing a lot of good defensive players but we still have the d-line, both starting corners, and an effective linebacker crew. There is no question that Farve will hit the big pass on Sunday. I think he will do it a couple of times. What the d needs to do is make sure that for ever big play they give up, they make a big play themselves. Farve does throw interceptions... now the o needs to capitalize. I think that Gibbs usually wins or ties the time of possesion war every game. That will always help to protect our defense from getting to tierd. Running the ball a lot will shorten the game, which also helps.

If Gibbs can come up with a couple of 15 yard routes that work, and keep Portis in open space, and get the o-line to provide 1 more second of pass protection, we are going to see this offense come alive. I really believe we are that close to being a great offense. Without these things.... we stink! I'm being patient and believing in one of the greatest football coaches I have ever seen coach the game.

Upon Sean Taylor's dismissal, our defense will not be as depleted as they seem. First off, Phillip Daniels will play, which will be a big addition to our D-Line. Second, we havent had Lavar for weeks, so it not as if our defense cant play with out him. Third, in Gregg Williams system, everyone is a "starter". While the Packers will be a tough test, i think the offense and the defense will step up this week.
