tryfuhl 01-21-2010, 06:05 PM do any other teams have a DBs coach and a safeties coach? i thought for sure when grey and blache left, we'd be done with that silliness.
I'd imagine every team does, I could be wrong, but it's not like we're unique in having a safeties coach.
tryfuhl 01-21-2010, 06:08 PM This 49ers OLine was terrible. Probably worst in the NFL (not that ours and Chicago's don't have a similar claim).
As for what that says about Forester...is Bugel a bad coach? His units have been pretty awful recently.Yeah there are too many variables. Like you mentioned with Bugel.. either he lost something or the FO didn't make it a priority. This could very well be the same situation that happened in SF. O-Line coaches will tell you who they like but they're not even close to the head-honcho on draft day and determining which players to throw money at in FA.
SBXVII 01-21-2010, 06:23 PM Any particular reason for this, or just the normal redskins cynicism? I tend to be optimistic this time of year, but I think that most, if not all, of these hires show reflective thought, and not just the throw up the hands and hire someone mentality. Looking at the production each individual coach has gotten from players during their tenure, it sure seems offensively that they all have a pretty good grasp on getting the most out of the players they have been responsible for.
I think the feeling comes because no one has heard of him before. I'm not a fan of Cable's issues and honestly don't know if his offensive lines were all that great. I too felt when A.Gibbs went to Seattle and rumor was Dennison was being interviewed by Houston, Uh oh, the two OL coaches Shanahan used to do great things are now not coming with him? and our issues were OL. WTF? No one heard of him nor anyone else interviewing for the positon and then all of a sudden on a Thursday.... "OL coaches position has been filled." Now were left wondering where the "F" did he came from?
Plus I like the write up on him but statistics are made to be twisted to look good. I'm glad we have Kyle Shanahan cause he had the #4 ranked "passing" offense. However his "rushing" offense was worse then ours this year, and we couldn't run the ball. We were ranked like 26th and they were ranked 28th I think. I feel safe knowing Mike Shanahan provides an awsome running scheme, and Kyle provides an awsome passing scheme.
I guess what I'm saying is I'm sure there was a nice flowery write up about Vinny Cerrato on Redskins.com. A nice beautiful write up about Zorn and many others. So I think we have to look into what the situation around him was. Plus I don't think I could work for San Frans HC. So the write up might be nice and exciting but I think we need to see why he was let go from the other teams.

i'm pretty sure they do.

Not every team does, but it's not uncommon either

was he let go?
SBXVII 01-21-2010, 06:39 PM So basically, in the year off, you think that MS only looked at two OL coaches, and/or that in the 2 weeks that he has been at work he didn't look at who else might be available that could coach the line the way he wants.
As for the 2nd point, it's not like Foerster was calling BINGO last week. He was an OL coach, looking at film and probably packing for the shrine bowl and senior bowl.
I don't know what style he brings, but if every other coach they brought in fits with what they intend to do, and any intelligent football guy knows that the OL has to be functioning for their offense to go, I think Shanahan understands what he wants in a line coach.
Could I be wrong, sure. In fact the SF website had a full thread bashing this guy-in addition to the one post quoted earlier, so he could be the next Stan Hixon, or the fans could be wrong and it could have been his players. I guess I am not going to get down on a guy who hasn't even unpacked his bags yet.
Ya know it irritates the hell out of me and I don't know why when people say this but I can honestly say his lame BINGO calling ass did what the staff on the roster couldn't do in a season and a half. Pretty shitty when a BINGO caller is better then the "young talented genius" minds we supposedly had on the team already.
but I will agree his resume seems nice and hopefully Shanahan's system is also plug and play like the players positions.

I'd bet there are less than 5 posters on here that can name 5 or more O-Line coaches. I'd bet that most people here can't name 5 OCs.
Face it, if it wasn't the O-Line coach from the Colts, plenty of people would have something to say negatively; hell even if it was people would wonder why the guy left.

I wasn't trying to irritate, I liked the SL hire, check my posts. I just wanted to point out that this guy was not sitting around, and not keeping up with the current OL potential players.
Overall, I simply am willing to give the benefit of doubt to Shanahan, who has had success with OL's in the past

True. Plus if its not "their" choice or first choice people present a lot of negativity. No I guess your right I couldn't name 3 OL coach's in this league (minus Buges), but no different then not all people are fan favorites of Haslett, or some of the defensive coaching positions, or Danny Smith, people are going to wonder why him? keep in mind there are always two sides to every story and although its a wonderful write up about the new OL coach I too wonder what negatives we will see from him? I hope he comes in and gets the OL working well together and this team performs well.
Perhaps it's nice to know what the negatives are. With M.Shanahan we know his running game was awsome but his passing game was good but not awsome. With K.Shanahan we know his passing offense is awsome but his running game was simply good. So hopefully between the two they can put together a team that has an excellent running and passing attack. But it will all center around who the OL coach is, how good of a coach he is, does he teach the scheme Shanahan needs to get this whole offensive scheme working or will there be issues with different philosophies?
