Coaching Staff update

Because our first two guys we wanted didn't accept the job, and we have very little to no time before scouting in the college games like the shrine game and senior bowl starts, and this guy hasn't worked with zone blocking teams like the broncos or texans. Thats why I'm being a negative nancy.

So basically, in the year off, you think that MS only looked at two OL coaches, and/or that in the 2 weeks that he has been at work he didn't look at who else might be available that could coach the line the way he wants.

As for the 2nd point, it's not like Foerster was calling BINGO last week. He was an OL coach, looking at film and probably packing for the shrine bowl and senior bowl.

I don't know what style he brings, but if every other coach they brought in fits with what they intend to do, and any intelligent football guy knows that the OL has to be functioning for their offense to go, I think Shanahan understands what he wants in a line coach.

Could I be wrong, sure. In fact the SF website had a full thread bashing this guy-in addition to the one post quoted earlier, so he could be the next Stan Hixon, or the fans could be wrong and it could have been his players. I guess I am not going to get down on a guy who hasn't even unpacked his bags yet.

pretty much every team in the NFL uses zone blocking, just some more than others

bugel taught the zone as well.. I remember a few years ago our linemen saying that they loved it

The guy obviously had some knowledge going from the indy TE job to getting a coordinator job.. granted the phins didn't have a great team then.. it was also one in which the HC got the boot mid-season.. and it is going from TE coach to coordinator

the jury is still out but I'm not going to pretend to know his body of work and instantly think that he sucks

big whoop if the first 2 candidates didn't want to come here.. that happens all of the time.. that doesn't mean that there are only 2 good line coaches in the NFL.. i know that coaches and players are different but haven't we gotten upset when we just got the big name instead of the right fit? maybe he's a good fit, we'll have to see.. we don't even know who is going to be on our line at this point, silly to speculate heavily

Zone schemes are used by nearly every team to varying degrees.

Slowick somehow seems to succeed Blache in coaching locations. First in Chicago, now here.

do any other teams have a DBs coach and a safeties coach? i thought for sure when grey and blache left, we'd be done with that silliness.

Not sure if any other team(s) have the same set-up but it has been reported that Jerry Gray and Steve Jackson had more than their share of differences. Maybe this staff will have a different pecking order where problems between the two position coaches will no longer exist.

Yea, most likely it will the the ex-Tampa Bay coach Mann. I put it out there cause I think the guy I referenced said they thought all the positions were filled. As far as I know I heard Mann was offered the job but he has not said whether he would take the job or not, and your right it would appear he is since he is no longer on Tampa's staff.

But....he might not be cause I have read other articles that say Tampa did not renew his contract and will have to fill his shoes. So it's not like he left them it sounds more like they didn't renew his contract.
I guess if he wants a job he'll take our offer though. :)

I hope they are wrong....on the other hand, we claim to had one of the worst lines this year and we had Buges...perhaps it is strictly talent related

I think it has a lot to do with getting the right coach in the right situation. Buges was the best at teaching Man-to-Man blocking which is good for Gibbs style and possibly Schottenheimer's, Norv's etc. Buges didn't do well in the WCO cause they need a more smaller mobile OL and Zone blocking. No different then A.Gibbs or Dennison might not have worked out in JGibbs system.

This 49ers OLine was terrible. Probably worst in the NFL (not that ours and Chicago's don't have a similar claim).

As for what that says about Forester...is Bugel a bad coach? His units have been pretty awful recently.
