A) Why was Waufle Fired?
B) I really like the hire of the Pittsburgh LB Coach as our LB coach, more than I like the hire of Jim Haslett
C) Is it 100% definite that we will be running the 3-4 this year. Also I wanted to add in that I was watching Inside the NFL tonight, and they had Junior Seau on talking to Warren Sapp. Sapp asks Seau "3-4 or 4-3?" ...seau said 3-4, and he has more experience in the 4-3 than the 3-4. Now thats saying something, if you ask me.
A- I think the reasoning was he didn't do a good job with their D-line. Apparently he didn't get enough out of them, but as some have pointed out there were injuries on the D-line and he had to work with what he had available. All reports are he's a good coach. He just might not have gotten along with the HC.
C- Haslett is a 3-4 guy. Shanahan is bringing in Assistants who work with the 3-4. Shanahan is enamored with the 3-4. My best guess is the 3-4 is a lock. I'm happy with it. "Hopefully" we will finally have an "Attacking" defense vs. the bend don't break BS.

Alright so if I understand it, this is how the Skin's coaching staff is shaping up. Still they weren't kidding when they said they were going to find and assemble the best coaching staff they could.
Head Coach: Mike Shanahan
Offensive Coordinator: Kyle Shanahan
Defensive Coordinator: Jim Haslet
Special Teams Coordinator: Possibly Bobby April
QB's: Chris Meidt (Holdover form previous regime)
RB's: Bobby Turner (Also will serve as Associate Head Coach)
WR's: Richard Mann
TE's: Possibly Scott Wachenheim
OL: Still looking
LB's:Lou Spanos
DL: Possibly Mike Waufle
DB's: Bob Slowick (There will probably be another coach specializing in safeties or corners)
Chris Meidt I guess could be QB coach but right now I think they have him listed as Offensive Asst.
Richard Mann, I could be wrong but I don't think he has been offered or said he would take the job as of yet. He was supposed to come for an interview and thats all we know right now. You might want to put "possibly" in front of him also.
Waufle might be a nice pick up so long as he's familiar with a 3-4 defense and it's blocking scheme.
Also I do like the fact that Shanahan is not picking up a bunch of old guys that may have had the game pass them bye or getting ready to retire if and when his son takes over. I hope 3-5 yrs down the road we have a nice young coaching staff still producing good results.
Lastly I still say they need to get April in. Give him more then the highest bidder and talk him into taking the deal. If he's not available who else is available or second best? I just can't stand Smith. HC's talk all the time about the importance of special teams and how thats what makes or breaks your team and Shanahan, Allen, and Snyder are going to just let him slip away? Please. We need this one.
I know Shanahan will have the Offense turned around soon maybe not completely in one year but maybe by year two. The Defense is what I'm more worried about since we are going to change scheme's to a 3-4 and possibly adding and subtracting personell. Haslett I don't think inspires fear with his medocre defenses in the past. Maybe they come out like gang busters and we can forget about it (which I hope happens) but I'm a little concered. So having an awsome ST is very important. Field position will be very important.

JLC has reported that Danny Smith is being retained as Special Teams Coach. This means we have atleast one more year of ARE returning punts. Hooray.
JLC is reporting that Danny Smith is likely to stay on. The Skins have denied permission for him to interview with Seattle, Pittsburgh and Detroit.
Mann is almost certain to be named WR coach by this weekend.
Olivadotti possibly in line to be assistant LB coach.

JLC is reporting that the Seahawks interviewed or will interview Jerry Gray for their DC job
He also mentioned that "Seattle dline coach Dan Quinn also a finalist and could be a shared job"
What the hell is Pete Caroll smoking - Jerry Gray and Dan Quinn may share the defensive coordinator job? So they would be co-coordinators?

I imagine if Jerry Gray ends up in Seattle, Olivadotti could follow him there.
The Giants are also interested in Olivadotti

KO would get demoted then? Odd, I hadn't heard anything about that

Look for the team to make an effort at least to obtain BU players who are more adapt and committed to playing ST. The unit we've employed of late are not the best for the job that needs to be done. Far too many instances where two men on the outside could not block one man on PR teams. Minus ARE as a returner, upgrade personnel where possible and Danny Smith can get the job done. I do like Bobby April's resume though, he could be an upgrade.

I beleive Danny Smith is a great ST coach - there's just no justification for continuing to put ARE back there to return punts. If ARE gets the axe, i'm fine with retaining Smith.
April would have been nice, but remember, it was SNYDER who wanted April, not Shanahan. Since Smith is being retained, its a nice example indicating Snyder isn't trying to forcing his will upon Shanahan yet.
