Longtimefan 01-29-2010, 10:57 AM Yeah I'm not sure exactly what Brennan has done to deserve anything more than being an afterthought at this point. He was Zorn's pet project. Now with a new coach you would have to think Shanahan will want his own project to groom.
Brennan had contrasting pre-seasons 2008-2009. Many thought he had a splendid pre-season in 2008 with raves following his performances--36-53--411 yds. 3td's 0 Int's. Hip, and other injuries slowed his performance in 2009 and his numbers took a freefall, 23-43--249 yds. 0 td's 3 int's. and the raves began to subside. I'm still interested in seeing where he fits in, if at all. If he's over his injuries he'll be in position to show the best he has to offer with no excuses.
Chico23231 01-29-2010, 11:11 AM Its time for TC to retire or be let go...good guy, but it is time to move on, plus JC may be the new back up if Shanny drafts a rookie...Brennan from what we have seen isnt a capable starter yet this league...maybe the Canadian league, but not the NFL

Yeah people drooled over his rookie preseason but in reality I don't think his two preseasons were all that different, in 2009 some of his forced throws got picked where in 2008 he managed to slip in those dangerous throws for completions. I know the Cult of Colt is still holding out hope, but with a new staff he's definitely on the fence and will have a lot to prove and in a very short period of time.

Don't think you'll get much of an argument on Todd Collins, but many people feel they haven't seen enough of Colt Brennan yet to be able to make an affirmative decision either one way or another about his ability to become an NFL QB. We've only seen 3-4 qtrs.of the guy at most, now if that's enough for them to formulate an opinion either up or down, it may not be enough for those who say the conclusion may seem hurried.
SolidSnake84 01-29-2010, 12:57 PM I really think that Campbell would make somebody, even us, a great backup. He doesnt cost you the game...he is careful with the ball, and can manage a lead nicely as long as the rest of the team is playing solid.
Somebody would want him as a backup. I think he could even stay here if they would sign him to a deal for veteran minimum....
BigHairedAristocrat 01-29-2010, 01:04 PM i don't see Collins or Brennan on the roster this year.

Just yesterday I was looking over all the QB's we've drafted by round since 1994.
1994 - Heath Shuler 1st --Gus Frerotte 7th
2000 - Tod Husak 6th
2001 - Sage Rosenfels 4th
2002 - Patrick Ramsey 1st
2003 - Gibran Hamdan 7th
2005 - Jason Campbell 1st
2007 - Jordan Palmer 6th
2008 - Colt Brennan 6th
2009 - Chase Daniel--Not drafted but signed as an UDFA
Considering the production we got (or didn't get) from these QB's, one can't help but wonder how much farther along we would be had we drafted a position player (other than QB) at more than one of these draft positions. I agree if it's determined Brennan can't play at the NFL level he shouldn't be on the team.
wolfeskins 01-29-2010, 03:44 PM I'm definitely interested in seeing what Shanahan's opinion of Brennan is as it relates to his future as a Redskin.
me too. i think brennan would be a good fit for shanny's offense.
tmandoug1 01-30-2010, 09:37 AM Lets get it right this time guys, look at the Rypien years he was a so so QB with an awesome O line and we won big. If we take a QB in the first round we are making a terrible mistake. Good O line and JC will wreak havoc on other teams.

Conventional wisdom suggests and has guided the thought process of many, that in order to reach the pinacle of success, a team needs to draft a QB in the top ten.
QB's like Mark Rypien and Tom Brady both drafted in the 6th round are players who have debunked the myth that you have to draft that ever elusive (so called) franchise QB. at the top of the draft to have a very successful QB in your employ. Their play has demonstrated that a QB needs only to be effecient to win. However, it is also widely believed that in order to win consistently on a sustained basis, the search for a high profile talent is a must.
The drafting of a FQB is totaly contradictory unto itself because they aren't drafted, they are made. A FQB is IMO, one who can walk into any huddle in the NFL pick up the football and have imediate success. By saying that, these type QB's are not defined by the system they paly in because you don't have to build a system around them for them to be effective. They do it because they can make any throw in any offense and succeed with any coach and with any type of offensive personnel around them. The performances of Brett Favre the last two seasons are perfect examples of what I'm referring too.
No Collegiate QB can bring that to the table, the best they can bring is the potential to be that, but the title of FQB will elude them until they demonstrate they can perform to the level of what the title demands. Hence the argument of what and not who is considered a FQB.
A good offensive line is also vital to the success of any QB. We need to look no further than our own Jason Campbell as a testament to that.
