None of the college quarterbacks available in the draft look like a first year starter. None of the potential free agent veterans look any better than Campbell. I would concentrate on offensive line, linebacker and secondary in the draft. I would pick up a quarterback in the middle rounds. I'm not impressed with the top quarterbacks. None are worth a first round selection.

Clausen is a franchise-caliber QB, Walter Football thinks so too.
A good blog on Clausen, I agree with it

We will be incredibly lucky if he falls to us. I don't think he'll get past STL though. The other QBs are not first round talent IMO, including Bradford.
Dirtbag59 01-04-2010, 04:37 PM I agree that a new coach usually means a new QB but the only QB Shanny had success with is Elway who was a superstar before Shanny got there.
This is simply not true. He got both Griese and Cutler to the pro bowl as well as securing a pro bowl alternate spot for Jake Plummer in 2005. To say he hasn't had success with QB's since he won the Super Bowl is like saying that up until now the Saints have failed with Drew Brees because they haven't even been to the Super Bowl with him as their QB.
This will be said a lot over the next few weeks, heck it's already been said, but Elway had lost 3 Super Bowls before Shannahan came in.
hail_2_da_skins 01-04-2010, 04:48 PM Good catch Slingin' Sammy, Clausen is rated a franchise caliber QB, but will he be available at #4? I don't think so. I also question his Pro potential. Brady Quinn, also from Notre Dame was highly rated and is still hasn't fully developed. If Clausen is so good, why did Notre Dame struggle so much. I'm not sold on this quarterback draft class. The Redskins need to draft a left tackle in the first round. I like Russell Okung, Oklahoma State and Bruce Campbell, Maryland.
NYCskinfan82 01-04-2010, 04:53 PM YES give him a line and he will improve.

I dont recall saying he didnt have success with QB, what I think I said (or meant to say) is that once Elway left his teams didnt really have much success. If they did have success I'm pretty sure he'd still be in Denver.
Hopefully it works out and with Vinny gone I think chances are better than ever that it will.

He'll be there if the Rams don't take him. The concern I have with Clausen is his limited time as a successful college QB. Still, I wouldn't mind getting him at all. ND struggled because they had No D. They scored 30 points over 6 times this year I think and I'm not sure they won any of those games (don't quote me on that)

It all depends on who the Rams like. They could take Suh but their taking a QB is more likely. So do they like Clausen better or Bradford better?
We can't answer that question for sure until draft day.
But it seems unlikely that Detroit or Tampa will take a QB. Therefore either Clausen or Bradford (and maybe both) will be available at #4.

Alright, yeah on that point I agree. However I think that was mainly due to a lack of talent on defense. Maybe that was his fault since he was in charge of putting together the roster, but in looking at his numbers his offenses have never had a problem. On top of that I don't think he's had a D-Coordinator that has been on the level Zimmers currently at for a while.

Keep in mind that not only did he lose Elway, he also lost Terrell Davis to injury. T.D played in only 17 games in 3 seasons after their last Superbowl victory. He also lost 2 other Pro Bowlers on offense Shannan Sharpe and Mark Schlereth. Lastly, he lost his 4 time pro bowler CB Dale Carter to the Ravens. That 98-99 Denver team was stacked, it wasn't just Elway, Elway proved 4 times before he couldn't carry the team by himself.
