The Skins chance on making the playoffs!!!!That Guy 10-25-2004, 11:19 PM when he retires they'll be soo screwed (at least in the short term)... monk81 10-27-2004, 08:41 PM Mistakes hurt us in the first 6 games...........we could've easily been 4-2 with wins at Giants, Dallas, Browns........our defense has been BETTER than anyone anticipated even WITH Arrington HURT!!! But I'm a realist since we are now at 2-4 and say with wins against Cinncinati, Giants, Dallas, and 49ers........ we might get one more....with young QBs they have up and down games so perhaps Detroit........that brings us to 7-9....not good enough for playoffs this year. But give Joe another year...a draft to fill in the holes....and next year........PLAYOFFS!!!!!!!!!!!! Riggo44 10-27-2004, 09:20 PM I think Green Bay will stick with Favre ;) Thats pretty funny smootsmack. I was thinking the same thing. :D Redskins8588 10-27-2004, 09:21 PM I am trying to stay opptimistic(sp) about our year so far, I mean we are 2-4, but who knows maybe the bye came at the right time for us this year and Gibbs & Co. has got the time to iron some stuff out. I am going to give us a chance until we deffinitly have a loosing record, as of right now we still have a chance to pull it out. Now with that being said I in no way think that we will get our offense turned around with Brunell under center, I may be wrong but that is why I an not the coach. I also belive that our key to the playoffs next year will be that we keep Williams on our sidelines next year. redrock-skins 10-28-2004, 12:43 AM This game may be the season right here. Big difference between 2-5 and 3-4. Even at 3-4 we have a hill to climb, but there would still be hope. At 2-5, we'd have to run the table or 1 more loss tops and we haven't played 2 against Philly yet. irish 10-28-2004, 08:57 AM The skins have almost no chance of making the playoffs this year. This year will be Gibbs' year to get up-to-speed on how the game is being played in today's nfl (attacking D's , etc.). Next year will be the year when I would be very disappointed if the skins did not get in the playoffs. sportscurmudgeon 10-28-2004, 04:14 PM Other than Philly, no team in the NFC has looked really good all of this year. For the moment, concede the NFC East to the Eagles and look at what the Skins will have to do to make the playoffs as a wild card. The Cowboys have 2 wins - one over the Skins - but they are faltering . Dallas will be lucky to go 7-9; they will probably go 6-10. The Giants have 4 wins with four easy games left on their schedule (Chicago, Cincy, Ariz and Dallas) The Skins MUST win the re-match with the Giants or the Giants will win 9 or 10 games and claim one wild-card slot. If Atlanta wins the South Division what's the prognosis for the rest of the division? Saints defense is awful and there is supposedly "internal team strife". Saints have 3 wins now maybe they can win 7 games. Panthers have 1 win now and won't win 6 games. Bucs have2 wins now and QB problems. Give them a max of 7 wins. Bottom Line here: Wild card team not coming from the NFC South. If Minny wins the NFC North what's the prognosis for the rest of the division? Packers have 3 wins now and play well one week and terribly the next. After the Skins on Sunday, I see only 3 easy games for the Pack. I doubt they will do any better than 8-8. Skins MUST win Sunday - see below. Lions have 4 wins now and some soft spots in their upcoming schedule, The Lions could win 9 games this year - if the beat the Skins in 2 weeks. Call the Lions 8-8 or 9-7. Skins must win next Sunday - see below. Bears just stink. Forget them. Bottom Line here: Two NFC North teams are playoff contenders in the 9-7 or 8-8 range. In the NFC West you have two teams that are absolutely irrelevant in terms of the playoffs. Arizona and SF won't be there. So the question is who will win the division and what will be the record of the other team. Seattle has 3 wins and a cupcake schedule. Their next 6 games are Carolina, at SF, at St. Louis, Miami, Buffalo, Dallas. That should give them at least 7 wins and probably 8 wins with four left to play. And in that final four games, they get Arizona. Seattle will win 9 games at least. St. Louis has 4 wins and a cupcake schedule. they have Buffalo, SF, Carolina and Arizona left. They will win at least 9 games. THEREFORE, the Redskins need 9 wins and some good fortune in tiebreakers to make the playoffs. If they get 10 wins, they are pretty much a mortal lock to be there. So they will need to go at least 7-3 for the rest of the season to have a shot at the playoffs and 8-2 to lock up a spot. Their four toughest games should be Philly (twice), Pittsburgh and Minnesota. They have to win against everyone else and win two of these four tough games to sail into the playoffs. If they lose even one more game against the "lesser competition" such as the Packers or Lions, they will have to sweep the four tough games to be sure of getting in. The Skins still have a shot, but there isn't a lot of room left for error... dragontat7169 10-29-2004, 12:05 PM Sortscurmudgeoun-I agree totally..the Skins must win the next 2 weeks for them to have a shot. I think if they lose either game..then they may be out of the running. It is a tough road to climb..but it is possible. If they lose one of the next 2 games, they may still have a slim shot..but only if the Packers, Lions and Giants go on a losing streak. In fact they must win 1 of the next 2 just to make it to .500. Green Bay is definitely going to be the test against our niched up defense. Granted the D is awesome the players are putting their bodies on the line in hopes that the Offense will pick it up. If we don't start generating some offense soon (and I mean this week), I don't see the Defense as making it. They have been beat up too much and have sacrificed so much. They are hurting and need some help. |
