I think the guy was too nice, like Norv, or even Spurrier to get the team going. It was obvious 6-7 weeks ago that the guy sucked and wasn't getting the players to perform. Yeah his playcalling sucked ass, but the guys still are paid to make them, and most of the time didn't. Shanny is going to be like a marine drill instructor compared to Zorn, and I bet that is why they liked Zorn. Sorry--I wasn't being clear. I agree with you, but I think that the players actually don't want Zorn to stay. They just say that in interviews because it's the professional thing to do. Players favoring a softer coach is more of a college phenomenon. I think NFL players want coaches who will help them win, and being a hardass is perfectly fine as long as it helps them win.
