Cowher and Shanahan are pretty comparable, Shanahan being offensive minded and Cowher defensive minded. Shanahan won 2 SB's with Elway, Cowher lost one with Neil O'Donnell and won one with Rothlisberger.

SFREDSKIN 01-05-2010, 03:22 PM Cowher and Shanahan are pretty comparable, Shanahan being offensive minded and Cowher defensive minded. Shanahan won 2 SB's with Elway, Cowher lost one with Neil O'Donnell and won one with Rothlisberger. mredskins 01-05-2010, 03:23 PM Nothing's been decided yet. I'm being "negative" about a potential move i see as the 2nd best one we could make. Once Shanahan is hired, i'll move on and hope he is better than he's ever shown he can be. you're just pissed because i'm stating undisputable facts about the records of two coaches. if there's only two sticks, we're definitely getting the shorter one with shanahan. Dude you are getting wrecked on here, sign off for the day. BigHairedAristocrat 01-05-2010, 03:33 PM Again maybe I'm missing something. Cowher had about 10 more games across the board. He should have had more chances. But I guess your talking about winning the season and making it to the Championship game.... Hmmm Shanahan has won more? That means Cowher basically out of all the times he supposedly went he only won 2? He sounds like the Cowboys right now. Been to the play offs many of times but can't get past the first round. I'd rather have a HC who can get past the Championship round. I think it's funny. I wanted Shottenheimer and every said no he sucks he can't get past the Championship round. But you'll take Cowher who can't simply cause he offers more chances? Shottenheimer offered more chances also but he supposedly sucked. you are missing something. The 10 more games accross the board is the result of one extra season of coaching... resulting in 1 additional potential season for a playoff appearance. As i stated over and over again, cowhers teams not only made the playoffs more times than shanahan (66% of the time vs 47%), but when his teams made the playoffs, they actually won games. shanahan didnt. there's an even greater disparity if you look at just the last 3, 5 and 10 years. Shanahan had most of his success early in his career. cowher had more success recently. its a "what have you done for me lately" league and cowhers done MUCH more lately. Both are better than Zorn, but Cowher is immensely better than Shanahan. MTK 01-05-2010, 03:34 PM In a few hours all of this is going to be moot any way. Trample the Elderly 01-05-2010, 03:36 PM ^^Hours? SmootSmack 01-05-2010, 03:39 PM In a few hours all of this is going to be moot any way. True. It will be official what we've pretty much known for a while (http://www.thewarpath.net/642144-post55.html) over the mountain 01-05-2010, 03:39 PM but Cowher is immensely better than Shanahan. i think statements like this, or "its not even debateable that cowher is better than shanahan" come off as ignorant. :) MTK 01-05-2010, 03:43 PM ^^Hours? Sure, I think it's safe to say Shanahan will be official very soon. Lotus 01-05-2010, 03:44 PM Personally I would prefer Cowher to Shanahan. But to claim that there is a wide gap between them is problematic. There are good arguments for both. My preference soon becomes irrelevant, anyway. CRedskinsRule 01-05-2010, 03:49 PM Cowher must have been very special to the Rooney family it took him what 15 years to win a Super Bowl. Most coaches don't get that long and only have 1 Super Bowl Ring & 2 AFC Championships. And I think it is fair to say he would not get that here. Shanahan has a higher upside out of the gate, and knows DS and BA and can work with them. Cowher would come here like a raging maniac and tear the team down, DS would get antsy and we would be right back to where we were with Marty. IF this franchise is going to work, there has to be cohesion and understanding of proper roles. I think Shanahan showed far more ability to work with what Bowlen wanted, and that allowed Bowlen to trust him. Cowher simply came into a family that believed in stay the course and we will win. And he did eventually. We are not a "stay the course" franchise. We need a coach and GM who DS respect completely, and who can talk to him clearly. I think that makes MS a better fit here, even if BHA's statistics show Cowher to have had a marginally better career. |
