Shanahan is about as sure a thing as a Antwaan Randle El fair catch. But just like ARE busted out a 43 yard punt return today...there's no telling what might happen with Shanahan.

that does not help at all.:)

b mitch says that he thinks shanahan isnt such a sure thing. on a side note, jerry gray had a very impressive interview after the game. would be interesting what role he plays in this head coaching search

I get a sense that B Mitch thinks Gray could be the wild card in this coaching search. B Mitch seems really impressed Gray as well.
I would not be surprised if Gray somehow emerged from this the next HC.

Rumor was if he lost his last 2 games he would be fired. He won the last 2 games. Rumor is the owner would keep him if he ended well, broke even 8-8, and won the last 2 games.

here's the question. Did Kubiac say he was staying? or was it the owner? It still doesn't mean Kubiac can't quit and be hired by Shanahan. right?

I was kinda hoping we could pick up Alex Gibbs as our OL coach so I guess I was hoping they would fire Kubiac and look for a new HC. It would make our chances greater of picking up Alex Gibbs. If Kubiac stays I can't see us being able to raid their coaching staff. Shanahan won't burn a friend like that.

Maybe. But if I'm Kubiak there's no way I'm quitting as a head man to be an assistant elsewhere. If nothing else, such behavior could damage his chances for being a head man again in the future.

Seriously, in what universe would that make sense? Nobody would quit a HC job to be a assistant.

To me all the signs, stars, and rumors point to Shanahan. No one else is even mentioned. It would turn DC upside down if Shanahan said no and went elsewhere.

Oh I'm sure some would be estatic like the ones who don't want him at all but since the break we have heard that he might be coming, 2 weeks ago we heard he was rumored to be the next HC, a week ago the contract was signed and Shanahan ready to take over, fans finally somewhat warm to the idea and BAM... he goes elsewhere.

That would be the ultimate suckage.

If that happens I hope they give Russ Grim a hard look.

Totally agee if the situation is right. Kubiac has been fighting rumors that his job was on the line all year. It came down to the last game for the ownership to say (presumably) "we won't be firing him." If your a HC does that make you feel all warm and fuzzy? knowing the ownership was ready to can you with 2 games left. It took the last 2 games for them to make up their minds?

I agree he will stay. It would be crazy for any HC to simply give up his job as a HC to go work in a lesser capacity.... unless he's not happy where he's at. Most likely he is.

I guess it doesn't matter. We have Shanahan's son. I still think it would be nice to pick up Alex Gibbs for OL. It would be nice to see Shanahan pick up someone with a brilliant mind to help Kyle out and maybe be QB coach or something. ..... Peyton Manning anyone?

McNair says Kubiak will "definitely" be back
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 3, 2010 7:05 PM ET
Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said today that Gary Kubiak will remain the team's head coach for the 2010 season.

"Gary's my coach," McNair said after the Texans beat the Patriots to finish the season 9-7. "I know there was speculation that he might not be, but he is. He'll definitely be back. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be."

McNair, who was shown on TV grinning from ear to ear after the Texans beat the Patriots, praised the job Kubiak has done this season.

"Look at the conditions he coached under, all the injuries," McNair said. "I like Gary for a lot of reasons. He's got a great offensive mind. He has a great sense of how to push players and when to back off. He also doesn't play favorites. He treats players the same, and they respect him for it."

Kubiak has an overall record of 31-33 in four years with the Texans. After talk for much of this season that Kubiak could get fired, former Texans General Manager Charley Casserly, who's now a CBS analyst, reported that Kubiak might even get a contract extension.

Another funny question that was asked to Mike Florio was ...

Where does he see Shanahan going and he said the Skins. Then someone asked where Cowher was going and he said either the Bills or CBS. Due to limited options he sees Cowher going to the Bills. LOL. He could have had the Skins job at one point. ;) Good luck with the Bills. Unless JJ fires Wade Phillips at seasons end no matter what or John Fox leaves then the only jobs may be the Bills and Browns.

8:51pm ET - Hey Mike, any news on Cowher and the Bills?
The Bills think they have a shot at him, because he has no other real options.

I found this to be funny also:

9:12pm ET - Where do you expect to see Cowher and Shanahan next season?
Shanahan in D.C. and Cowher either in Buffalo or at CBS.

9:11pm ET - Mike, can you please list all the coaches you think will be fired?
Too hard to tell this year. Bills won't keep Perry Fewell. Zorn is definitely out. Mangini probably will be. Jeff Fisher could try to finagle his way out of Tennessee. Giants should fire Tom Coughlin. Jim Mora could be in trouble depending on who the G.M. is. They should clear out the front office in Detroit, but they won't.

I thought this was interesting.

McDaniels defends Moreno and blames O-line - Page 2 - Broncos Country Message Boards (http://forums.denverbroncos.com/showthread.php?t=159713&page=2)

This is from a poster

Suddenly, in less than 1 year, one of the best lines in football became "trash" after the arrival of a new coach and running back. Oh, and don't forget about Orton ans his "auto-sacks".

Translation: Shannahan can make players look better then they actually are. In other words the new O-Lineman that we bring in will probably be able to contribute immediately.
