CRedskinsRule 12-30-2009, 07:38 AM LOL some funny stuff there. I keep hearing he's holding out for Dallas or some other team to increase the cost to get him. LOL.
Honestly now.... your rumor is late. The new rumor is he's already signed. :)
I heard it was a done deal ( i think it was a thread on here that said that. ;) )
Landry44 12-30-2009, 10:16 AM I can't wait until Zorn is gone. If you ask me he's just as bad or worse then the Old Ball coach. I hope that Shanahan is really coming here.
Paintrain 12-30-2009, 12:07 PM I've got a friend that works with the league on the business side who is a HUGE Raiders fan and knows more about football than almost anyone else I know. I asked him for a scouting report on Shanahallen.
He e-mailed me this morning with the following:
I loved Bruce Allen..... did a great job with the draft as well as signing free agents. Also a big plus.... knows how to work the cap. From what I remember the Raiders always seemed to be on the brink of going over, but he would get them under while still signing quality free agents.
As for Shanahan he is obviously a great offensive mind. He likes a mobile qb and loves to have a several running backs at his disposal. The one concern I have is his defenses were pretty bad the last few years in Denver.....they tried a lot of different defensive coordinators and personal, but nothing seemed to work. Overall if you do hire him I think its going to be a good move. He's well respected, has the rings, and is a proven winner.
Nothing groundbreaking although I was pleasantly surprised to read his assessment of Allen being so positive. I don't think the defensive issues that Shanny had in Denver will necessarily replicate here because we've got a solid core on that side of the ball..
BigHairedAristocrat 12-30-2009, 12:31 PM i would think if he's been working with Bob Slowik the past few months, that he'd stick with him as DC (or more likely, assistant head coach - defense with Zimmer being defensive coordinator) then he'd stick with him a while.
my main "concern" is that with Shanahan and Slowik planning on running a 3-4 or a hybrid 3-4/4-3 defense, that we may not have the right personnel in our front 7. I don't think any of our linebackers would fit in a 3-4, although carter and Orakpo could slide to play OLB... but do any of our DL really fit the mold of 3-4 d-linemen?
rebuilding is going to take a lot longer if we're doing it on both sides of the ball.

I'd think Haynesworth would be a perfect NT in a 3-4 defense.

A) Where did you hear that Slowik plans on running a 3-4?
B) Carter would definitely not fit in it since he didn't fit in San Fran's 3-4 when they moved him to OLB, thats why he came to us.
C) Haynesworth can play NT or DE so thats not a problem, Orakpo IS a 3-4 OLB, Anthony montgomery could easily be a NT, Jarmon could possibly plan DE or Lorenzo could. Fletch and Rocky could easily be starting 3-4 MLB's. The biggest questions for us would be one of the DE spots and the other OLB. We could definitley switch to a 3-4 if you ask me.

That would be a complete waste of his talent. If anything, he'd be a better 3-4 DE because he could collapse the guard/tackle gap and create blitzing lanes. He's too athletic to just be a space eater NT.

And not to mention the fact that Haynesworth doesn't (or refuses?) to be just a space eater..

Good stuff Pain. Thanks
rbanerjee23 12-30-2009, 01:13 PM Oh, I wasn't sure. Are you kidding me, hell NO. Dungy is bigger than the Rooney Rule anyway. You know. The Rooney Rule is in place for the no-name black candidates, not the successful black candidates. In that regard, I suppose, success supercedes race and color. But yeah, if we interviewed Dungy I don't think the Rooney Rule would enter most peoples minds. Dungy is a great coach period.
That's a great point, if Dungy was hired, I feel as though we would still ask about the Rooney rule only to realize that wait, Dungy is black so argument over. Dungy is such a great coach that I don't think anyone would have a problem with him coming in and running the show
