Just wondering what people think about Snyder interviewing Gray while the season is going on. Just totally making a joke of the rule. I mean Shanahan has got to see this stuff and has to know what he's walking into. I'm still shocked that someone with his credentials is going to come here. And I'm shocked that Gray would sell out like he did.
I'm a little disgusted by it quite frankly...I get that Danny really wants Shanahan but come on, the Rooney rule was meant to ensure that minority candidates get a fair shot opportunity. It seems that Danny literally was like, send the first black guy you find into my office for the HC 'interview' and then, Rooney Rule, satisfied...send a letter to the league office that I'm done.
The way it looks, he could literally have interviewed like some guy from HR or accounting just to satisfy the Rooney Rule. It may have nothing to do with race but he's making a mockery of it.

That whole situation is kind of bizarre.
Redskins Insider - Analysis: Redskins' interview is bit of a Gray area (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/analysis-redskins-interview-is.html)
The rule will have to change I suppose to not allow for head coaches to interview when there is no vacancy. What Snyder did wasn't wrong...but it may not have been right either. And I can't totally fault Gray for accepting an opportunity to interview for a rare opportunity but he probably didn't show the most tact there.
I wonder though if all this commotion would be happening if it was Tony Dungy that was rumored to be coming here, not Mike Shanahan.

Gray may have ruined his chances to ever coach anywhere else in the league.

Why would Bruce Allen not be able to get a coach with credentials? The Redskins are a franchise with unlimited resources and a strong fan base. Plus if Allen and Shanahan both have it in their contracts that they are in charge then Snyder is irrelivent. If he breaks the contract like he did with Marty then they both walk away with millions of dollars. There is no down side to the job now with Vinny out of the way.

Well it's plain as day that Gray interviewed for the job. Gray is nothing but Snyder's token and Snyder is even a bigger loser for letting this go on while we're still trying to win games. If Gray had any balls he'd just say, "this will be a distraction and if you want to talk with me about the head job then let's do it when the seaosn is over." Not meaning to turn this into a bash Snyder thread but this is one of the reasons why I can't stand his guts. It's just disrespectful on so many levels. Wait til the season is over before you do crap like this. Just my .02.

I agree. Gray is the one who looks bad in this. Everyone knows Zorn is fired...the Redskins are just acting proactively to move quickly on a new coach. The rules force them to interview minority candidates and they have several on staff. Gray should have declined until after the season, but if he was willing why would the redskins not get it out of the way now? Gray was not very loyal to Zorn and it could affect how other head coaches will view having him on thier staff.

Snyder didn't make a mockery of the Rooney rule, the Rooney rule is a mockery in and of it's self.
The Rooney rule itself is a bit of a joke at this point.
Whether a sham interview happens during the season or after, I don't see a big difference. Just more ammo for the Snyder haters if you ask me.
Perhaps Gray was promised a spot on the new staff in exchange for the interview, or perhaps he really is plan B?

For grey to interview I'd say the first would have to be true. That said, don't see whomever shanahan brings in as DC wanting grey on Staff.
