Well said....I don't think you'll get much of an argument from anyone in regards to your assessment. "The Rooney Rule Is A Joke" Unfortunately teams have to give the impression that they are in total compliance.
Are we going to talk football here, or are we going to make ourselves look like racists, because we have a problem with someone getting an opportunity to interview for a job that in otherwise wouldn't have a chance. Why don't you guys worry about football, and let those guys worry about the interview , it's their dime and time not yours. I'd also say if no Rooney Rule there would be no Super Bowl champion Mike Tomlin. So unless you've walked a mile in a minorities shoes YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT! about what a minority goes through just to even get there foot in the door, even though we have a black President. All you guys have done is made yourselves look like racists and that saddens me because I don't see us all in black and white we are Burgundy and Gold....hail!

I was thinking the same thing but couldn't put into words.

I often wondered why minorities and non minorities don't get upset about affirmative action. To me it send two negative messages:

1) The Gov. is applying a rule that discriminates against non minorities.

2) It sends a message that minorities can't get a job based on their own qualifications. If I was a minority I think I would be mad that I was given the job solely because the business needed to hire a minority vs. me being better qualified then the other applicants and getting the job due to hard work and diligence.

I do understand that there are lots and lots of instances where minorities are discriminated against because they are a minority, and they don't get the job even though they are the better candidate.

I don't know. I don't mean to piss people off but the message just seems bad. (A) We will discriminate against non minorities in order to correct a wrong against minorities, and (B) The Gov. is calling minorities inferior and making a law to level the playing field. I know the law was put in place to combat discrimination but it should be changed to either protect all americans no matter what color or nationality or eliminate it all together. If we keep the law then tweek it so the business or whoever is punished severely for their discrimination.

but as someone else said ...in the NFL its kinda the old boys club and they would interview the janitor and say we interviewed someone to satisfy the rule instead of actually interviewing a qualified candidate or they would interview a qualified applicant to only give it to who they want to be their next GM or HC. The law only says they have to interview someone not that they have to be qualified or seriously considered.
You guys are simply lost and simple minded so I'm going to exit from this discussion, because this conversation shouldn't even be going on, and Mods shame on you for allowing this crap to continue, do you all think minorities only belong on the field? regardless of the views of a few ignorant few, I still Love my Skins and all the minorities that help make this a class organization even if some of the fans are not!

The Rooney Rule is garbage.... no one says we should try out white RBs before we sign a black one....its a freaking joke. The NFL is about winning, if an owner is still dumb enough to NOT hire the best coach for the job regardless of color his record will prove his incompitence. The rule is insulting and demeaning.

I'm sorry but your post seems a bit unintelligent. Nothing in the Rooney Rule says that a minority candidate should be interviewed before a non-minority. The Rule just wants to make sure that owners interview at least one or two qualified minority candidates. Nothing in the Rule says that owners have to hire these minority candidates. And many agree that the rule at the least gives these candidates exposure in the league and/or the opportunity to go through an interview process that historically they have not gotten.

I highly doubt that in the past couple of years, a less qualified minority candidate has been hired over a qualified non-minority; or that non-minority candidates have lost opportunities because of the Rooney Rule. Also, the Rule gives teams the flexibility of bypass it if an assistant becomes a coach-in-waiting (i.e. Mora Jr. in Seattle).

For people that are "concerned" about how this affect minority candidates in regards to having these interviews when there's a clearcut candidate in mind, well they have the option to decline these interviews just like it happen in Detroit when Mooch was hired. Otherwise, I'm sure some young minority head coach or executive would see an interview as an opportunity.

I don't understand how the Rooney Rule discriminates against non-minorities. Can you all please show me an instance in which a non-minority candidate did not get the chance to interview because of the Rooney Rule?

As a white guy who has some black friends, it just baffles that we still have some ignorant people that think the Rooney Rule is crap. If you're not a minority you can't say anthing about what it takes or how it feels for them to even get an oppurtunity like a Coach or GM.
