Great point. Shanahan is going to be hands on picking players. The more I hear Shanahan name, the more I like it. Cowboy fans around the office are pissed cause they all wanted Shanahan after Wide Phillips gets axed. Anybody have any ideas about the kind of D Cordinator he would bring in? I know Ill catch flak for this, but I hope Blache would stay or if not that Gray would be promoted.
Shanahan isnt gonna fix what isn't broke!

As much as i'd love to keep Gray as DC (Blache needs to go), i'd be shocked if Shanahan didn't bring in someone from the outside. He's going to want his people here.

I would be shocked if he fired Blache. The biggest qusestion I have is would Blache want to continue to coach.

The way Snyder feels about Blache and Gray, they may get a shot. I think they have some respect around the NFL. Of course if Snyder has truly learned, it won't be his decision to make.

Or as I said, give a minority coach or young executive the opportunity to get the interview experience. For instance, Morocco Brown may not have had a shot at the GM position...or maybe he would have...but he got the chance to interview with an NFL owner about the GM position.
That's one way to look at it; however I look at that as "taking lemons and trying to make lemonade." It doesn't change the underlying truth that discrimination is taking place - minority coaches (or execs) get token interviews while non-minority coaches don't. Or, on the flip side - minority coaches get manipulated when they have no chance of getting a job; where as non-minoirty coaches arent.
I may be naive, but I don't think the rule, as its currently designed, has ever done any good. Mike Tomlin was not a Rooney-Rule Interview. He would have been interviewed regardless of his skin color. However, we all know no one has ever seriously considered hiring Ron Meeks to be their head coach. Yet, he interviews for jobs every year. Its a sham and its degrading.

Look, people are looking at Shanahan just as a coach, but also look at some of the players he's drafted the past few years, All Pro LT Ryan Clady, Jay Cutler, Eddie Royal,
Brandon Marshall, Tony Scheffler, Ryan Harris (starting RT), Elvis Dumervil, Domenik Hixon (now of the Giants), Dominique Foxworth, the late darrent williams, and DJ Williams. Thats from 2004 to 2008. Thats pretty damn good team of players if you ask me.
that is a very good sign
Wouldn't he get paid though if he were to be fired?
I believe so, which is why he might not accept a demotion if it meant a proportionate salary decrease.

Id certainly prefer continuity but why would you be shocked? Do they have some connection i'm not aware of? Shanahan goes through defenisve coordinators like jon gruden goes through quarterbacks and tiger woods goes through mistresses.
Rooney Rule=Equal Employment Opportunity Every job you apply to has this rule, so therefore same thing goes for the NFL.
Didn't Jim Caldwell have the Indi job handed to him on a plate?
Shouldn't they have had to interview a non-minority candidate? :)
