(Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahandmek25 11-19-2009, 11:19 AM and wouldn't that drive up his asking price? i hope he signs there, because i don't want him here SmootSmack 11-19-2009, 01:13 PM I may have been too quick to dismiss Shanahan to the Bills. Apparently the interest is more legit than I thought. From Shanahan's end that is. I still think he won't go there but I'm no longer as certain. BigHairedAristocrat 11-19-2009, 01:29 PM what are you hearing smoot? why on earth would anyone want to coach in buffalo? you've got a meddlesome owner who is (despite his protests to the contrary) cheap and a small market team with less talent than almost any other team in the NFL. why on earth would shanahan be legitimately interested in Buffalo when much better positions should be available? Well NFL.com's Vic Carucci says they are meeting next week. Aside from that, Shanahan is reportedly intrigued with the financial state of the team (who knows how much that matters in a possible uncapped year though), and supposedly is getting assurances that money is not an object and he will get complete control. Maybe Wilson is changing or realizes that is his probably his last chance? Still, what does Buffalo offer that Dallas and Washington don't? Probably nothing. There is one thing though (and it would be a big gamble on Shanahan's part) that could make Buffalo much more appealing for Shanahan. And it's probably kind of morbid also. But Wilson is 91 years old and he has said his family will not inherit the team. So imagine the Bills moving to Los Angeles (with or without Wilson) and Shanahan as head honcho/part owner. Anyhow, I still would be surprised if Shanny goes to the Bills. But crazier things have happened I suppose. freddyg12 11-19-2009, 02:02 PM Well NFL.com's Vic Carucci says they are meeting next week. If what you say is right about the money, Shanny may see this a la Tuna, the chance to rebuild a team & put it on course to win. Kinda like coaches that take jobs to build small college programs into big winning programs. BigHairedAristocrat 11-19-2009, 02:04 PM Hmmm, ownership could be a HUGE factor and one that I did not consider. On a side-note, do you really want Billick and Bradford? If so, please explain in a way that will convince me you haven't lost your mind. skinsfan69 11-19-2009, 02:27 PM Well NFL.com's Vic Carucci says they are meeting next week. I mean I know the league wants a team in LA but that would be a real hard thing to see.....no team in Buffalo. Great fans there... Great fans there... Personally, I think the Bills will end up moving to Toronto or, at minimum, split home games there. The Jags make the most sense to move to LA, in my opinion atleast. SmootSmack 11-19-2009, 02:59 PM Cleveland has great fans and they still lost the Browns, albeit temporarily. That said the Bills are not as likely as say the Jags to move. As for Billick and Bradford it's moreso something that I think could happen. I'm not advocating it, but it won't neccesarily upset me either. Wouldn't be my first choice though SBXVII 11-19-2009, 03:08 PM what are you hearing smoot? why on earth would anyone want to coach in buffalo? you've got a meddlesome owner who is (despite his protests to the contrary) cheap and a small market team with less talent than almost any other team in the NFL. why on earth would shanahan be legitimately interested in Buffalo when much better positions should be available? This from the NFL.com: News (http://blogs.nfl.com/category/news/) Shanahan likely to meet with Bills officials next week (http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/11/19/shanahan-likely-to-meet-with-bills-officials-next-week/) Posted: November 19th, 2009 | Vic Carucci | Tags: Bill Cowher (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/bill-cowher/), Buffalo Bills (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/buffalo-bills/), Mike Shanahan (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/mike-shanahan/), Ralph Wilson (http://blogs.nfl.com/tag/ralph-wilson/) Mike Shanahan has emerged as the Bills’ “No. 1 candidate” to become their full-time coach after the season, according to a source close to the team. The source said a meeting between Shanahan, Bills owner Ralph Wilson and Bills chief operating officer/general manager Russ Brandon, who is overseeing the hiring process, likely will take place next week. Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher also is high on the Bills’ list of candidates, but at the moment, they are focused on Shanahan, who guided the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl championships in the late 1990s but was fired after last season. There’s also strong speculation that the Redskins are pursuing Shanahan to replace Jim Zorn as their coach after the season. However, according to the source close to the Bills, Shanahan is intrigued by the “low-maintenance” situation he would have in Buffalo as opposed to Washington. The Bills, the source said, are willing to offer whatever salary is necessary to land a high-end candidate such as Shanahan and would give him total control of the football operation, something Wilson has generally been opposed to doing in the past. Adding to the job’s attractiveness, according to the source, is the fact the team is in solid financial shape and not burdened by any dead salary-cap money. “This is his (Wilson’s) last coach and (he) is going to do everything it takes to get it right,” the source said of the 91-year-old owner. The Bills fired Dick Jauron on Tuesday and made defensive coordinator Perry Fewell their interim head coach. – Vic Carucci Total control and no meddling. Hmmm. Plus a T.O. WR. |
