hooskins 11-13-2009, 04:05 PM I think he deserved this much of a fine, if not more. It seems unfair, but if you think about it for a second it makes sense.
To the NFL the upmost importance, is keeping a good image. That is why it is one of the most popular leagues. There is almost zero doubt about the refs credibility. They makes millions of dollars a year, and that is all at stake. The harsh fee is to show other players and the rest of us the NFL holds the refs to high integrity standard.
I am glad they did that.
CRedskinsRule 11-13-2009, 04:07 PM I think his stunt was fine, and he should not have been fined. Of course, I love all the escapades. From the fun bunch on, look if a team doesn't want another team to celebrate Stop them. It can be done to any team and any player. All these fines for celebrating are ridiculous.
firstdown 11-13-2009, 04:13 PM He does these not-so-funny stunts for personal attention, so I have no problem with increasing the dollar amount every time. It's getting old.
This fine money goes to charities, right?
He's going to end up like MC Hammer after his playing days...he throws so much of his money away.
Q: Where does the money go that the NFL collects as fines from teams and players? -- Lee, Tallahassee, Florida
MORT -- The fine money is distributed to three charities -- the Brian Piccolo Cancer Center, the Vince Lombardi Cancer Research Center and the NFL Players Association Players' Assistance Trust. The latter charity is for former players who are struggling in their post-playing career.
This is what I found but its about 6 years old:
hooskins 11-13-2009, 04:20 PM technically this wasn't a celebration either, it was an antic.
Daseal 11-13-2009, 04:29 PM I love Chad Ochocinco. He never gets in trouble off the field and he has FUN on the field. His stunts never hurt anyone or offend anyone. They're in good fun. I typically hate 106.7, but they made a good point today. He gets fined 20000 for that, and Mike Smith gets 15000 for grabbing a player and talking trash to him? If DHall grabbed Mike Smith by the collar, what would happen to him?
CJ is a great player who has fun. I'd take him in a second, at least we'd have a legitimate player on offense besides cooley.
The fine seems a bit steep, perhaps it's due to him being a repeat offender?
I don't mind Ocho, if you follow him on twitter you'll see he's actually a good cat, very generous too. He'll tweet that he's going to the movies and anybody that shows gets in free, and he'll post a pic of him and like 50 people hanging out.
JLee9718 11-13-2009, 04:48 PM I'd trade Portis for Ochocinco any day of the week!
Ruhskins 11-13-2009, 05:25 PM I think if CJ were here, he'd be another DeAngelo Hall, there would be fans with agendas bitching and whining about everything he would (and wouldn't) do.
On a related note, so Goodell is telling me that what CJ did is similar to what Mike Smith did, hence the same amount of $$ fined?

CJ's fine has to be an escalation for repeat offenses like Matty said. No way that CJ's was worse then Mike Smith's.

it may very well be escalation, but still too high imo, i'm just not happy with goddell's overall handling of the league the past few year i really miss the way the league was run back in the 80's, just seemed like it was alot more fun back then, he has made some good moves but overall i'm not a fan, and don't even get me started on his stupid ass obbsession with the nfl being in europe, lame
