Gibbs wants Brunell to do just enough to allow the defense to rest.
Actually, Gibbs's stated goal for each game is for the offense to score 21 points per game, which they have yet to do. Protecting the defense isn't just about giving them rest, it's about scoring points, so that they don't have to pitch a shutout every game.

Instead of complaining about what Brunell isn't doing, Let's talk about how our defense can score some points off of turnovers when the offense is struggling.
As if it isn't enough that the defense has only allowed six touchdowns in six games, now they have to score for the offense, too? Talk about waving a magic wand! This defense has more than held up its end of the bargain. It's time for the offense to start doing their job, and score some points. That doesn't take a magic wand-- it just takes more effective playcalling and quarterbacking, neither of which have been very effective thus far. Gibbs is willing to admit to the poor playcalling, so don't lynch me for that, but he's saying that as much to cover up for Brunell's inefficiency as anything else.

Sunra, that statement about not worrying about the o and starting to try to figure out how the d can score is completely misguided. The O is SUPPOSED to score, that's the whole point. They are not out there to REST the D. You're kidding, right?
Yeah, Morton's not playing well but he touches the ball 4 or 5 times. The QB, well, that's about every play on offense as best as I can figure.

SKINSnCANES: Gibbs said in the post game that they ran SEVERAL deep plays but blamed a "breakdown on the line" as the reason Brunell had to completely miss a wide open Coles and to throw to open receivers 5 yards out of bounds. The line openned holes for 225 yds today, I find it hard that they didn't give Brunell adequate time. It wasn't like the BEars decided to shutdown our red hot passing attack.

What does it say about Gibbs' confidence, or lack thereof, in Ramsey if he's letting Brunell play hurt (according to Gibbs) week after week?

I think the decision to stick with Brunell is less faith in MB than it is lack of faith in Ramsey. Which is a shame because I think Ramsey deserves a chance out there

I'd love to know the whole story because I agree with you smootsmack, something besides the play of Brunell is keeping Ramsey on the bench.

He was the first Redskins coach to have over 12 winning seasons.

This was in reference to George Allen. Actually, he coached here only 7 years. But they were all winning seasons, and 5 of the 7, we went to the playoffs. He preferred Kilmer to Jurgy, because is offensive philosophy was that they should not lose the game. The defense and special teams would win it. The press whined the whole time he was here about "boring" football. But it sure was nice to win!!!!
