Tackling technique, no. Taking bad angles, yes. Do you not get this? If he's closer to the line of scrimmage, it vastly reduces the angle to the ball he has to take. If he's closer to the ball, he can arrive quicker. If he's closer to the ball, there's less chance of him being one on one with a ball carrier. It really is simple, how do you not understand this?

No I do get it. Fine..he takes bad angles cause he's out of position. I'll give him that. But the missed tackles are just pathetic. Have some pride about your job, have some courage and man up. If you get run over then so be it. But make the effort. I'd rather have Reed in there at SS. He's not the athlete that Landry is but he's always in position and he's a MUCH better tackler.

Bust? I would say no.

Disappoint? Yes. This defensive scheme makes him the last line of defense. He must be more disciplined with his tackling. He always seems to be going for the Sports Center hit. I think Landry is trying too hard to make the big play. Landry. Orakpo and Haynesworth seem like they really care and can't stomach losing and are going overboard. But it has resulted in mistakes that has hurt the team.

Landry was playing close to the LOS on Turner's second TD run and had a clear shot to make the tackle. He didn't try for the "big hit." He didn't try to wrap up. HE DOVE AT THE TURF TO AVOID CONTACT. Please, please stop w/ this nonsense that Landry is always going for the lights out hit but just can't find his mark. He's avoiding direct. He fails at the two things he's supposed to do: stopping the big play (air or ground), and punishing anyone who gets into his territory.

...sometimes I feel like we're all watching different games. How the hell does anyone not see Landry avoiding contact? There are dozens of no-name safeties in the league who take every opportunity to lay the would and punish the opponent. They play fierce and fiery defense and when they punish their prey they just look to do it again. Landry isn't even in the same realm. Name me one play this season where Landry put the hurt on someone and got a reaction from the announcers or made you hold your breath?

I agree w/you on everything unless you're saying he fails at stopping big pass plays, which he does. How many deep balls have been completed on the skins the last couple years? The Desean Jackson td was on Horton's side in what looked like a cover 2.

He is avoiding contact though, which is the opposite of his scouting report out of Lsu as a safety that plays the run well.

I agree completely about his tackling, it's been awful for 2 years now. He's more concerned about not getting trucked than making a good tackle. Even his play behind the line of scrimmage yesterday was a borderline horse-collar. I'd love to see him come up, break down and make a solid fundamental tackle but then again, outside of Fletcher, Orakpo and McIntosh nobody on our defense does that!

Reed is just a guy. Nothing special, he's a good 3rd safety but that's about all.

This just in from Redskins Park:

Laron Landry was so upset after they arrived back at the park last night about the scuffle in Atlanta that he got in his Hummer and attempted to drive back to Atlanta to confront Head coach mike smith. He was pulled over in Pennsylvania this morning for speeding.

I guess Laron is staying true to himself he took the wrong angle to get to Atlanta and ended up in Pennsylvania trying to deliver a late hit

I hope you didn't spend much time thinking that one up.

I agree but watch the guy tackle. He's fundamentally sound and he always gets the guy down.

Yes, Landry needs to return to SS. We didn't draft him to play FS. But apparently some of our fans do.

Agreed. I just hope people aren't saying in a yr or two that Orakpo needs to be cut cause he has not panned out at SLB. Landry was drafted to be the SS where he was in college. Due to ST's murder Landry was moved to FS cause he was the best we had at the time. At this point I would put him back at SS and move a CB maybe even smoot to FS. I know I'll get ripped for the Smoot comment but Smoot is getting old and can't keep up with the young guys running down the field, but if he had to sit down field and simply move to the side the ball is coming to he might not be too bad. Other wise find someone with some speed and tackling ability for FS.
