Lotus 01-28-2010, 10:36 AM There was a time when #21 was getting negative criticism like Landry is now. Maybe Landry, like Taylor, will mature, "get it," and become a force. PHazard 02-11-2010, 05:07 AM Im going to admit it. Laron Landry is my FAVORITE current Washington Redskin. I am his biggest supporter and it hurt me far more than any of you to see him struggle this year. Yes, he had an off year, but so did EVERY SINGLE REDSKIN! Our whole team had an off year, we went 4-12 for christ sake. This is how im going to present it, 2010 could be Landry's Breakout year but the following things need to happen. He needs to be moved back to SS. You guys make it sound like he played regularly in college @ FS, but that is a complete fabrication, he def did not. He played there sparingly. If he was a FS in college, i highly doubt he would have been a 1st round pick, let alone a top 10 pick. If you watch his old game film or even highlights, you will see he made his impact near the line of scrimmage. He would take on OLineman, put a helmet right into the FB, he would cause a LOT of problems in the backfield and thats why we drafted him. He's also a superior blitzer. He led LSU in SACKS! as a SS! Thats why we drafted him, he's a great athlete who causes problems for other teams. Haslett's defense as been described as agressive, n i really hope that they are smart enough to use him to his MAX effectiveness. Good coaches make a scheme that caters to their players STRENGTHS. So if we limit the space Landry has to occupy, keep him close to the line, and blitz him regularly then he can reach his fully potential! You want a feared safety? Ask ppl who had to deal with him in the box. Ask Kerry Collins after he smashed him in that 1st preseason game. Ask those college QB's that took devestating hits because of his blitz's. Guarantee if we use him like the QB's will always be spotting him before the snap to make sure hes not coming. This is not Cerrato/Snyder show anymore guys. We dont do stupid trades. You think we should trade a former Top 10 pick that hasnt been given the proper time to reach his full potential and who still has ALOT of youth on his side away? We have a NEW regime in place to specifically NOT make anymore stupid personnel moves. This thread is a waste. tryfuhl 02-11-2010, 09:50 AM freshman year he played most games at free safety sophomore all 12 games at free safety junior all 13 games at free safety senior I believe every game free safety as well I don't know how much they moved him around, but that's where he started the games at.. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved him closer to the line on certain downs though, probably where most of his highlights come from senior year he came back a bit bigger and they say he lost a step.. do I think that he's better suited for SS? most likely but that doesn't mean that he was a strong safety at LSU, I think he started maybe ONE game at SS there.. by that, he should be a cornerback since he also started at game at that position 53Fan 02-11-2010, 10:37 AM I read somewhere, sorry can't remember where, I think the Redskin site, that he would play closer to the line this season. Sometimes even resembling a LB. I hope that's the case. GMScud 02-11-2010, 01:24 PM Im going to admit it. Laron Landry is my FAVORITE current Washington Redskin. Sure Laron is athletic, but contrary to what you said, he has had plenty of time to reach his potential. He's moving in the wrong direction. He's regressing for sure. Yeah, he's a good blitzer, but that's about it. He's AWFUL at tackling, always goes for the blow up hit instead of wrapping up, and he's so bad in coverage. He bites on pump fakes like they're cheesecake. Plus he's a hot head and is good for multiple bonehead personal fouls every year. He's my LEAST favorite defensive player, and next to Portis he's probably my least favorite Redskin. PHazard 02-11-2010, 01:54 PM Sorry to crap on your mancrush, but this thread is far from a waste. Yes, he is extremely athletic but thats not why im sayin keep him. It took Sean Taylor this long to reach his potential as well. But Sean Taylor didnt hafta switch positions either. Landry is no Taylor, ill be the 1st to say it, but Landry's learning curve has been steeper due to position change. n okay, if yu wanna say he played FS in college, then LSU used their FS in the box n just switched his title. Maybe his position was listed as "FS" but for the most part he was in the box, except when disguising coverages. He's not regressing, coming out of college the knocks on him was he wasn't a sure tackler and coverage was an issue so we already knew that. Not improving is different then regressing. but if he makes a permanent move back to SS so he can play in the box, in the middle of the field, cover the flats, n help support the run defense, then his potential to help our Defense will improve tremendously. You dont hafta be a great tackler to be disruptive as hell. His problem is he needs to have a coach that believes in him and pushes him to work harder. And as far as the late/hard hits, he does overdo it sometimes. but he is one of the only players on our defense who displays SWAGGER! I hate that word cuz of how often it is used now but he HAS IT. They say ur defense takes on the personality of their coach. well wit Greg Blache, thats exactly what happened. Everyone played like a soft spoken, prevent defense with no aggression whatsoever. Haynesworth and Landry are the only two who didnt transform into boring players (Fletcher is an exception cuz he is phenomenal even tho he is quiet). The only two who looked like they were on the field to take it to the other team week in and week out regardless of their record. So he celebrates after routine tackles? So what. Let him. He's the only one out there who looks like he is having fun. Maybe you guys are all okay with boring zombie like personalities but if the whole defense could could get swagger like Landry we could become a FEARED defense. Thats why i hope he can move to SS, so he can start making plays and be the leader he should be. If he throws a few "remember me" hits, then thats a price to pay. But i wanna be the 1st defense in along time to be so feared that it gets a nickname like some of the great 80's defenses. Ruhskins 02-11-2010, 04:16 PM Regardless of being out of position, this doesn't justify Landry's mistackles, he's attitude, and his lack of discipline. Whether you are a FS or SS, you need to tackle well, and this has been my biggest Landry pet peeve. I hope Haslett can get his ass straight. mlmdub130 02-11-2010, 07:54 PM but he is one of the only players on our defense who displays SWAGGER! I hate that word cuz of how often it is used now but he HAS IT. he has the wrong kinda of swagger he has the oh you gained 8 yards on 3rd and 7 but i hit you hard some i'm a beast swagger JLW428 02-11-2010, 08:00 PM he has the wrong kinda of swagger he has the oh you gained 8 yards on 3rd and 7 but i hit you hard some i'm a beast swagger I totally agree. He has the swagger that says "you can't tell me anything, cause I'm the best thing to ever happen to this game" when really he is not all that. JLW428 02-11-2010, 08:05 PM Landy really needs an attidue check or he will never be a great player |
