tryfuhl 11-08-2009, 05:19 PM I liked how quickly/hard the holes were hit today
also, the reads on the blocking or lack thereof seemed better
Portis runs unenthused
tryfuhl 11-08-2009, 05:19 PM We've talked a lot about Portis and the various problems he presents, but with all the other many thing going wrong with this team he's just a small portion. Discipline is a serious issue with this team.
In my opinion, when you excuse problems, you become one.

Funny that you mention discipline because Portis' problem is discipline too. He doesn't practice, he has had run-ins with head coaches (both Gibbs and Zorn), and this year he called out Sellers (correctly, but it is still wrong). He has a direct line to the owner, and that seems to allow him to do whatever he wants.
12thMan 11-08-2009, 05:38 PM Take away that 74 yard run, and Portis is done this year. He hasn't done one damn thing worth a damn. He's given us some really good years, but he's done. I don't even see him laying out blitzers like he used to.
Losing two steps in the NFL is two too many. Trade him or bench him. Rock and Betts were much better and ran much harder.

We're too financially vested in him to do either of those. The only we can hope for is that the CBA doesn't get signed and we go into an uncapped year where we can release players with no ill effect.
I don't think this is a complete reflection on Portis's ability. From the looks of it we made adjustments at half and didn't give up on the run. Atlanta seemed prepared for some pass heavy offense so we could get back into the game.
We did manage to run better in the 2nd half though. I can't completely put that on Portis given the circumstances.

He is done. Don't think any team would trade for him now. Rock and Betts are straight ahead; no speed to get around the end. This O is doomed.

And in all honesty, most any other back in the league would have scored on that run with one man to beat.

A young, talented RB with speed. What everyone in the NFL is looking for. Is it in this team's future with everything else in the offense to address next year?

I agree, and that's what makes him the thread title. He takes a position that's not condusive to winning football.
maroonandblack30 11-08-2009, 06:18 PM Portis sucks...end of story. Over hyped over paid prima donna. I hope he is ok from the concussion, but I won't lose sleep if I never see him in a skins jersey again.
Betts and Rock are at minimum equal to Portis.
Im guessing he has a boat load of guaranteed money coming to him in the next two years, so we are probably stuck with him.
Just add him to the list of Skins that are stealing money and giving minimal effort.
