Not defending CP but you have to admit that the OLine was actually pushing ppl out of the way yesterday. which has not been seen much this season.

I think this conversation needs to start by talking about the OL. They did a great job (finally) and dominated the LOS all day. That's where an effective running game starts and ends, it's all up front. That said I do like how Betts attacks the LOS. He's much quicker and decisive. He takes the ball and just goes. I like the way he finishes his runs too, always falling forward fighting for more. At this point Betts has a lot less mileage on him than Portis and is much healthier.

The oline did play well, but I don't think that was the difference...we had a LT who hadn't played in years and a new guard going against a very good defense. The difference was Ladell. He got the yards CP doesn't get because of his lack of vision. Betts is the difference (and Rock).

the offensive line is always the reason for a good running game......ALWAYS.....

portis doesnt get the help from the offensive line that betts got.....he doesnt get the same defensive looks when he is in the game

some of you guys are no better than your teams owner.....you are completely blinded by the fact that your team is struggling this year.....clinton portis is easily your best player.....easily a top 5 running back in the league on a bottom 5 team in the league......you guys make me laugh

look back the Falcons game and ask:

has Portis been running as hard as Betts and Cartwright?

has Portis been decisive in hitting the correct hole like Betts and Rock did?

I think there's something to be said about the fact Portis doesn't practice all week and then trots out there on Sundays.

1) Actually Barry Sanders, for just one example, had some fine years running behind a shaky o-line. While good o-line play is quite helpful for a running game, your "always" statement is simply not true.

2) as for your Portis point, you continue to completely ignore all evidence that contradicts your assertion. Such unintelligent thinking makes me laugh...

Im sorry you haven't had a TV and have been unable to watch NFL football for the past 2 years...that must suck.

Top 5 back? uhhh not even close.

AP, Jones-Drew, Chris Johnson, Cedric Benson, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Frank Gore, Westbrook, Stephen Jackson.....ALL out class CP.

Huge factor...

It sounds like he NEVER practices during the week. How does he even see the field on Sundays? He shouldn't.

I think Portis has a big chance here to be the better man and take his role as the 2nd (or 3rd) RB. I know we're not paying him all that money to be that role, but he should put the team first.
