I still do not understand why those activities have to happen late at night when there are a month of daytimes to work them out. This leads me to doubt these rumors.

I would tend to agree with you

I have been kinda wondering why if there are people clammering for Grimm we don't have people clammering for Jacoby? or Theismann? They have almost as much clout. LOL.

I think it makes sense. Snyder is likely close to panic mode. None of the big-name, quality coaches will return his phone calls, and he needs to make a big splash both to keep the fans interested and to satisfy his ego. Shanahan just wants one more huge payday, and he's a smart guy. He'll take a pile of money and stick around a few years till Snyder (and probably Cerrato still) get bored, frustrated or whatever and then Shanahan will retire.

This is all fan driven speculation. We don't know of any coaches, big or small names, that have accepted or refused Snyder's calls. For all we know Snyder and Cowher talk every Tuesday at 11. At this point it's far more likely that Snyder hasn't spoken to anyone because he has a head coach for the next month and there's no point in talking to anyone about a position that's not vacant yet. There would be no reason to panic in December about not getting a chance to speak to potential coaches.

There's so much talk of it being nearly a lock that Shanahan will be the next coach here...but I can't shake the feeling that something else is up. That there's someone else who's being secretly lined up.

Please let it be Cowher....

To be honest, if we can't land Cowher, i'm on board from promoting Lewis and Meidt: Lewis as HC and and Meidt as OC. Lewis is old, but the spark he's brought this team is undeniable. If he didn't want the job (and at his age, i'd understand), then i'm all for promoting Gray or bringing back GG. basically, our offense finally seems like its clicking and, unless we bring in Cowher, I don't want to see it change.

To be honest, I would no longer be as upset if Vinny sticks around. His 2008 draft picks all seem to be panning out nicely and he was on the money bringing in Lewis. Of course, if the rumors are true about Vinny bad-mouthing Snyder around the league, he might be gone no matter what.

We are talking about Snyder right? No, DS was upset after the Detroit loss and flew to Denver to meet with Shanahan. The team denied, denied, denied, until finally some how it leaked that DS did go to Denver to meet with Shanahan. Any HC in his right mind would not want to take over a team mid season. As Shanahan said it would not change anything. He most likely would not be allowed to bring in a whole new coaching staff, most likely some of the Asst. coach's or position coach's he would want are not available right now and he would have to wait until the season ends to get them so bringing him in then would have not accomplished anything. We still would have been losing and fans might have turned on said new HC as well. No sense in ruining your popularity prior to getting your people in place to take over.

I think Shanahan wants the Skins job. I don't doubt he and DS have talked and worked out an agreement. DS waited and took his time to speak with HC's then went about it the wrong way the last time so I'm sure he's making sure his ducks are in a row this time, his new HC has time to start rolling right at season's end, and DS gets the man he wants prior to anyone else.

I like Cowher too but I get the feeling or maybe it's his actions that he just is not interested in being the HC of the Skins. I honestly think he wants the Carolina job and might have a side agreement for after this season he would take over. I also wonder if his decisions are not tied to his kids and college. Are any of them in any of the N.Carolina colleges? or is it closer to a house he owns or something? It shocked me that it was mentioned he was interested in possibly the Buc's also. Maybe it's more his wife and kids wanting to go somewhere warm vs. a cold weather climate.

I agree. I have stated before all this speculation about a new coach is just that (speculation). No one in a position of authority has stated as fact that Zorn will (without a doubt) be fired. Until that notion becomes final, then everything about a new coach in just speculative, and breeds a wide range of opinions none of which may amount to a hill of beans.

The Redskins have a coach, and until he's dismissed other coaching prospects aren't likely to discuss possibilities that fans will have knowledge of. The fans and the media have been firing Zorn since week three, he's still here with four games left to play and has done a great job at keeping this team together, playing hard with little to play for as a reward for this season. I'll discuss the prospects of a new coach if/when Zorn is dismissed.

Let me clarify.. I agree about what happened after the Detroit game and possibly even the KC games. My point was specific to in recent weeks. I can't see where it would be a benefit for Snyder to be making calls and inroads with people right now rather than waiting until the season is over.

Shanny and Snyder probably have talked in hypotheticals about contract and organizational parameters. I think if it's Shanny, it happens within 3 days (interview Blache and/or Gray for Rooney) of the season ending. The only delay could be if Dallas makes the playoffs and Shanny waits to see if Phillips is fired when they lose.

Cowher lives in Raleigh, NC about 2 miles from where I live. I'm assuming his daughters go to NC State, although UNC isnt too far of a drive. Cowher lives about 2-1/2 hours from Charlotte and 4-1/2 hours from Landover. I definitely think Cowher and the Panthers makes the most sense, but its also possible he's leveraging the Panthers to get more control and/or money from Snyder.

I agree with your timeline. I don't think any of the big name coaches out there take a job before finding out what Dallas does. Even if they their eyes on another team, making a decision without allowing Dallas to help drive up their asking prices just doesn't make any sense. And from Snyder's perspective, he'd probably want to wait until the NFL season is to ensure the media's attention is focused soley on his team.
