DBUCHANON101 11-27-2009, 05:40 AM Ok, so if we are limited to two decent HC's and one most likely going to Carolina, we either make sure we offer the most in money and give Shanahan the world or we look at Co-ordinators. Who would be good candidates from the Co-ordinator pools?
Saints(?)
Colts(Christensen)
Vikings(?)
Cardinals(Grimm)
Jets(Schottenheimer)
Texans(Shanahan)
Browns(Ryan)
Anyone else?
Marty please come back. Please work out some deal with DS and take the GM/HCing job until your son Brian is ready to take over as HC. Turn this team around.
Amen

Turn this team around.Unless he's denied by everyone else, I don't see Snyder going with less than a marquee name. Now that Chris Polian is off of the table (he's the one 'name' GM that Snyder would probably try to lure) I'm not sure he's desperate enough to go the GM first, then let him hire a coach route.

See one would hope that this is where all the problems lie. Most owners hire a GM and let him bring in a decent coach. So basically you predict DS will most likely hire his HC and then look for a GM?
I agree DS I presume will not want to humble himself and ask Marty to come back but honestly almost no one see's Cowher here and Holmgren is likely to take on the Seattle job cause I think everyone see's him as the face of Seattle, Gruden is stuck with ESPN, I never thought Dungy would take up coaching again but stranger things have happened, So in a nut shell all the big named proven coach's (proven meaning HC's that can actually coach) are pretty much gone except Shanahan. So either DS makes a big push for him or in my estimate Marty is the next solid HC available.
I'll get slammed I'm sure by those infatuated with Billick or Fassel but I just don't see them as being great HC's, they were mediocre. I know Billick won one SB and Marty didn't but I still see Marty as being a better leader especially when we need someone with Marty's personality vs Billicks.

Well if he hires Shanahan as Pres of Football Ops, I think he's going to let Shanny pick his front office as well. I don't see Marty as a viable or even a positive option here. Why keep dipping into the past?
Maybe I am just being naive but I think Shanahan is going to go into his next job with a different outlook and plan. From some things I've read, he's spent a lot of time studying the Steelers and Patriots organizations and I'd expect him to model wherever he goes after what he's deemed to be their best practices. I also think he realizes that doing it ALL is too much and will hire a quality personnel guy that he can work well with. He may have the titles and the final word on the roster but I think much of the leg work will go to someone else.
Finally, if he's the guy, he can put himself in the Hall of Fame by turning our franchise around and making them a consistent winner that he hands off to his son. He's already got 2 Super Bowls but history really considers those as "Elway's Super Bowls" instead of his. If he can reach 2 more and/or win one more, especially by revitalizing a cornerstone franchise, that would cement his coaching legacy. He's got to see that and be willing to couch his current ego for the sake of his long term ego.

Marty simply isn't interested in coming back in any capacity. He's 66 years old and quite content in retirement. He's been steadfast in saying he's not coming back.
As for Shanahan I've never understood why people are so quick to discredit his success as simply due to Elway. Wasn't he responsible for assembling the team around him? At that point in his career Elway wasn't carrying the team on his back. If anything the success of Terrell Davis is what drove those SB winning teams.
celts32 11-27-2009, 12:32 PM There's also always Gregg Williams as an option. So long as Vinny goes, Williams is a possibility. But Snyder won't let him be more than just head coach.
I would be happy with him as coach if we got a good GM to go with him. Maybe we could get someone with ties to Tennessee that worked with GW in the past. That could be a nice combo.

Like Floyd Reese? Whatever move Snyder makes it will be big. If he can't make the big move, maybe he just sticks with Zorn...but there are too many big options out there for him not to make a big move

rbanerjee23 11-28-2009, 01:08 AM Of course DS is going to hire a HC and then a GM...it makes too much bad sense for Snyder not to take that route lol

I know I'm supposed to be impressed but honestly I can't say that I am. I just get the feeling he would most likely win a bowl in college, no different then Spurrier, but struggle in the NFL like he did with the Giants and got canned.
