I love Joe Gibbs as we all do, but i think the team and this franchise as a whole need to move on from Gibbs. We need to prove to the NFL and ourselves that we can find success beyond Gibbs. At Gibbs' age now (67, 68?)...how long would he be here for Gibbs 3.0? 1 year, 2 at the most???

I agree, its time to move on to the future and stop looking to the past. Gibbs had his time and he was great, now its time to find the new Gibbs.

Yep, it's time to find new talent. Time to bring in a young talented GM.

It apears to me Joe Gibbs will forever be linked to the Redskins either directly. or indirectly for as long as he lives. He's forever enshrined in our conscience.

Can I ask you an honest question? Why didn't Joe Gibbs do that before he left?

I don't know. I can speculate. JG1 left cause he was burnt out. I think his only reason for coming back and it's only my oppinion is for his son. I think he was trying to get his son established in a football coaching situation and 2 yrs into it his son decided it was not for him and bailed to get involved in Motocross. I think ST's death and a struggling season wore on JG2, plus he needed to get back to his JG Racing. I think there were issues there. I think he felt he had set the Skins up coaching wise for the future and decided to leave this time around. Then DS shit canned the whole thing JG2 assembled.

I'm betting the dinner was a "I'm sorry for screwing up what you did for me, can you help me out again" type of dinner.

Honestly I don't know why he didn't. Maybe it was not offered like some of us thought it was. Maybe JG simply was not ready to take on that roll with all his grandson being sick and the issues with his Racing team (and I'm refering to Stewart leaving unless that happened after.)

I don't know why it is that every time the subject of Joe Gibbs being in a position of team president comes up, people automatically assume that means the same thing as GM.

And furthermore, why is it that people say "let's not look to the past but the future" and then say they'd take Bill Parcells as team president? It's the same difference. If Gibbs could build a successful racing team, surely he can build a successful football franchise...a sport he has been successful with in the past.

Gibbs is an excellent motivator and organizer. That is exactly what we need in a Team President. If there is someone else better than Gibbs for that position, then by all means, let's grab 'em up before someone else gets him. But, I'd put my full confidence in JG to put the right people in the right positions (GM & Head coach) than I would Vinny Cerrato and Dan Snyder.

And I really don't see how people can blame Gibbs for the current state of the Redskins. That is ridiculous! When Gibbs left, the team was a playoff team. Maybe not as dominate team as he had in the 80's, but it was the most stable version of the Redskins that we have had since Gibbs 1. I realize that's just opinions, but I'm all for Joe Gibbs being a team president and being the one responsible for hiring a good GM and a good head coach. Who else do you know that Daniel Snyder would give up the reigns for? Exactly...nobody!

I agree with what you're saying regarding Snyder and his motivations for bringing Gibbs back yet again. Personally I think Snyder believes this will serve a dual purpose by improving the team on the field and filling the seats/appeasing the fan base. However, I think having Gibbs on board in a team president kind of role will only make us better. Gibbs is smart enough to put the right people in place to make football decisions, and Snyder has shown that he'll defer to Joe in that regard.

And let's not forget, Gibbs is the only person allowed to call Mr. Synder "Dan." That's all you need to know really. :)

Yeah I find that pretty funny cause Gibbs ALWAYS call JKC "Mr. Cooke." Even after he died. But Snyder doesn't need Gibbs. All he has to do is hold a press conference and let everyone know you're getting out of the way and hire Chris Polian or Floyd Reece. He'd get the fans back on his side right away if he did that. Oh yeah....and fire Vinny

I don't think this move would be to appease the fans, when has Snyder ever showed he cares about what the fans think? I think it has much more to do with the fact Gibbs is someone that Snyder trusts and respects.
