redsk1 10-30-2009, 12:12 PM Anyone catch Muhammed and Larry this past week? It's a good documentary on the epic matchup at the end of Ali's career. Ali was 38 and had slowed dramitically not only in his physical speed but his speech as well. Ali got paid 8 million for the fight.
The scene of Ali preparing for the fight in front of fans, who were mesmorized at what they were seeing was stunning. You could see the fans, shocked, at an overweight, slow Ali getting beaten up by his sparring partners.
Ali got beaten up by Holmes. I think they said he threw one punch in the first round.
Missed that, saw the commercial and it looks good
BringBackJoeT 10-30-2009, 12:32 PM I saw the one on the USFL, and it was very entertaining--funny seeing Spurrier trying to fire up his Tampa team. I DVRed the Ali-Holmes one, and I'm really looking forward to watching it. There are some very interesting ones coming up as well, including one on Jimmy the Greek, Len Bias, and, if you happen to love running, Terry Fox, who tried to run a marathon distance every day in order to run from one end of Canada to the other. He'd had a portion of his leg amputated due to cancer before he began the run. Steve Nash directed it. Another upcoming installment covers the birth of fantasy sports.

I'm about to go watch Without Bias
There are some really good movies coming up over the next several months

Yes, the USFL, was a good one too. You forget that they were getting the #1 picks coming out of college. Reggie White, Herchel Walker, Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Sam Mills, and more. I had no idea Donald Trump was involved. Interesting stuff.
drew54 10-30-2009, 02:02 PM How about Steve Young's 40 Million dollar annuity.
SolidSnake84 11-24-2009, 03:56 PM Does anybody else watch this show? I caught it the other night and it was the film about Muhammad Ali vs Larry Holmes world title fight of 1980. The film is made up of previously unreleased footage from 1980 that was filmed during the training camp.
Very, very sad, film. Ali, who was retired for 2 years, was completley and totally shot as a fighter, plus he had parkinsons setting in. Larry Holmes gave him an absolute beating over 10 rounds.
I just felt so sad for Muhammad Ali after watching it. He was the only person who believed that he had a chance against Holmes. In the film you see him totally getting whooped in sparring sessions, unable to hit a speed big anymore, and struggling with coordination hitting the heavy bag.
This fight should have never have been allowed to take place, and neither should Ali vs. Berbick in 1981. Who knows, Ali might not be so messed up today.
12thMan 11-24-2009, 04:10 PM I saw this about a month ago, it was good. But yeah, it was very sad.
SmootSmack 11-24-2009, 04:14 PM I'm going to merge this thread with this one
