We need a quarterback, of that there's no doubt. But first we need a foundation to build on, which is a solid offensive line. As someone pointed out earlier, this is a rebuilding process that will take time. For a rookie QB to develop he will need plenty of time to make his reads. If he is worried about pressure, gets sacked a lot or knocked down that's going to delay his development. Bradford would be injured before the bye week behind this line. There’s no way he could make it. We could be in a very good position if we trade our high first round pick away to get an extra second round pick. Then we could select 3 OL in the first 2 rounds.

I would hope that a good qb could be had in the late 1st or 2nd. I agree w/whoever posted about Parcell's moves in Miami. OT is one of the safest picks in the draft & they can last a long time. QB is 50/50.

I'm not saying Colt B. is the man, but I'd been saying for a couple of years that we needed to draft a backup qb. they got Palmer & Colt in back to back years in late rounds. Regardless of how it turns out, those were decent picks IMO.

Let's see if Colt can move up to #2 next year. Then, maybe he'll show his starting material. I'm not saying he will, nor am I saying not to draft a qb, just saying it would be really sweet if our future qb were already on the roster.

Was just listening to Mel Kiper on Espn radio. He still has Bradford as the number one QB on his big board. I can't for-see any team drafting him if McCoy or Clausen is still available.

i thought tony pike was the best qb in the draft apperently i might be wrong it doesn't matter who is in at qb in cincy their program is sick zach colleras has over 300 yds in the first half, but if you don't just look at the big name schools there are even better qb's in my mind look at case keenum at houston he has great numbers this year about the same as mccoy, and we could prob pick him up later in the draft too after a solid ol prospect

Give me the cornerstone of a dominant OL, then whomever plays QB will be that much safer (and better) down the line. Hello people - we won a Super Bowl with Mark Rypien, and made it to a conference championship with Jay Schroeder. That's what great OL play can do. Ordinary QBs can become near Pro Bowl caliber with a great OL that gives them time to operate.

Campbell was one of the least sacked QBs in the NFL before Samuels went down. Did I miss the part where we were 4-0 and Campbell was throwing for 300 yards and 3 TDs per game?

The Mary Rypien method of winning Super Bowls is the exception, not the norm. I'd rather go with the more proven method... with guys named Manning, Brady, Warner, Favre, Elway and Roethlisberger. Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle once with someone like Dilfer, but with an elite QB you can win multiple SBs and be in the running every year.

And BTW, great QBs have a way of making their O lines look dominant. Cassell was the second most sacked QB in the NFL last year. When Brady's under center, they don't give up sacks. Curious how that happens.

I agree with your general premise, however lets take a look at the last 4 QB's that's won a Superbowl. Ben Rothlisberger, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning. All elite, franchise QB's. An elite QB will force the opposing defense to drop more men in coverage instead of stacking the front box. That would take tremendous pressure off our offensive lineman. I agree that we need to draft lineman, but we're going no where without an elite QB. We'll be just like Minnesota without Brett Farve. A great running team that can't convert in 3rd and long situations.

We have drafted some of our best lineman in the later rounds. Russ Grimm 4th, Joe Jacoby(undrafted) Jeff Bostic was a second round pick George Starke 11th round pick. That's *why* we need to use the first pick to acquire a talented QB, and use our 2nd, 3rd, etc to draft lineman, and pick up a few free agents.

So you think a rook QB will make our pathetic line look good?

Sam Bradford is not worth our first pick unless he slips and we trade down. We need linemen just as bad and a guy like clausen from notre dame or somebody of that caliber. Colt Brennan should also deserve a chance.
