Hindsight... I dont remember anyone complaining when we got Orakpo. You guys complained about lack of sacks, hello Rak and Haynesworth = Sacks.

Well, in any case, none of us are the Vice President of Football Operations for the Redskins.

Pretty much sums it up. Everytime I hear him talk I cringe. The guys on NFL Countdown were hammering him. However, in Vinny's defense some of the problems have to be laid on Gibbs. Vinny sucks at his job and there is no denying that. I was done with him after the Jason Taylor trade, but Gibbs made some shitty moves that are hurting the team today.

Although I don't know all the facts about who made every decision, I have to believe this as well. Duckett was a major waste, as well as the other mid-round picks we traded during Gibbs 2. We traded away our depth when we traded away those mid-rounders.

Im not saying that VC hasnt ran this team down, but in alot of cases most of us supported the moves we have made recently. I remember driving home and hearing we lost 2 DE's in practice and got jason Taylor. I was very excited, who knew he would go from a double digit sack man to a underachieving bust? Same as when we drafted RAK, i was thinking this is a guy who can come in and start from day one and give us a presence off the edge on every play. Haynesworth is the same, yeah we overpaid but he has made an impact in the games thusfar, ask Carter if he supports that move as he is reaping the benefits of the double teams Big Al draws from opposing olines. if DT,MK and Davis were playing up to their potential and we were scoring 25+ a game this wouldnt be an issue. they were all highly rated on many draft boards at the time of the draft and most of us welcomed the youth movement at the skill positions as ARE clearly is not carrying his load and Moss is inconsistant. so yeah its easy to complain now but noone saw us starting out like this.

Actually, I think the draft day thread had it's share of complaints about lack of o-line drafting. I know because I defended the moves as suitable preparation. I guess I could do as good a job as Vinny.

I still don't have a problem with drafting Orakpo. Most importantly, he was drafted -- not traded for. Secondly, I'm a big advocate of drafting for value -- not necessarily need (not always the best thing, but usually IMO). If Orakpo was the best person on the board, and represented the greatest value to us, draft him -- even if there are bigger needs.

Taylor is completely different IMO, because we traded a 2nd rounder for him. A 2nd rounder, in all likelihood, would at least become a decent backup for maybe 10 years. That's a lot of value. Taylor could have lit it up for us, but not for more than 1 or 2 years realistically. That's terrible value in comparison.

Haynesworth lies somewhere in the middle of these two situations, IMO. We didn't give up a draft pick, which is really good, but we are restricted in other areas (mostly depth still) due to his large contract. He has made the whole DL better, which is worth something. But, is it worth $100? I don't know, you could probably get 5 average players for that. As it is now, we have 1 good one, and 4 below average (not necessarily on the DL, but wherever we had to skimp to fit in the cap -- i.e.: depth).

I have more complaints about Vinny drafting no OL after the 1st round then I do about Orakpo over Oher. Orakpo was just to good to pass up and a no brainer of a pick.

Come on now. you can't blame Cerrato for not trading down. It wasnt his fault. Remember, he ran up to the podium to turn in the orakpo pick within seconds of being on the clock, so he didn't have the opportunity to wait and see if someone made an offer to trade up to 13...

Actually, if memory serves me, Cerrato spent the better part of the offseason and the days approaching the draft trying to trade away our 1st rounder for Jay Cutler or Mark Sanchez. Then, on draft day as our pick approached, Cerrato tried to trade up to 12 to select Orakpo. Fortunately for us, Denver told Cerrato they weren't selecting Orakpo. So drafting O-line was never part of the plan to begin with. Cerrato is full of crap and can't be fired soon enough. If he's not fired or demoted by/in the offseason, i simply cant remain a skins fan anymore... Just like i won't do business with a company thats dishonest or poorly run, i can't continue to support a franchse thats run by imbecilels and has proven, for over a decade, that it only cares about money.

That and the fact that they sue broke old ladies has me heading in the same direction. I haven't decided whether it's The Ravens or The Steelers.

I was upset that we didn't draft a T or G in the rest of the draft. Why draft a beast DE and use him at LB?
