GusFrerotte 10-25-2009, 02:41 AM Come on, you know they need to keep Zorn for positive PR or rather to save any face that they can. Do you think any respectable HC, ex HC, or OC/DC waiting in the wings is going to want to work for these clowns after they ditch another guy midseason? I will tell you what, the only dude we will get here in Jan as the new HC will be Norv. What a frigging riot that would be(Norv coming back). The guy Dan canned that started it all!!!!!
cookskin21 10-25-2009, 03:30 AM Really probably the best move but we need to clean house on 1/4/2010.
rather frove were a great team this year! u cant wait that long.. we have the skill. show it!!!!
skins89moss 10-25-2009, 03:36 AM I do not think this "backing" of Zorn is slowing down any agenda at all.
Even though they have assured Zorn the season at the least, that does not mean that a coaching search and interview process can not commence immediately. Just because Zorn has the job for the season, does not stop Snyder from interviewing as early as Tuesday.
Front office can start screening and interviewing, taking thier time over the next couple fo months so they have a solid candadite, with an "agreement in priciple" already in place by January.
This does not slow down the process at all. Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren, Gruden...none would ever take a coaching job mid-season. Reports are that Shanahan already turned the job down the week after the Detroit loss.
But that does not mean that Danny-boy cannot convince Shanahah (or any of the other top tier coaches) over the next 8-10 weeks to take the job for next season.
We must remember the owners have to comply to the Rooney Rule. So even Synder would not make the mistake to have a agreement in place with a owner due to the Rooney Rule. He probabley face a heavy fine from the NFL.
Kaisersozaa 10-25-2009, 08:56 AM I'm surprised at many of the things I have read here. First, I am in agreement about anything negative that can be said about Snyder and the illustrius Vice President he has. My feeling for them belong elswhere. Here I want to focus on Coach Z and his future with this team.
First, I was as surprised as anyone with the way Zorn was hired. With no head coaching experience, and no play calling experience, his hiring should never have happened, not at least as head coach. He has done great things with Jason, and has installed a new system. With that in mind, I hope that he is given 2 to 3 more years.
Don't cut me yet! listen to what I have to say. The Redskins have had it rough since the golden age of Gibb's first tenure. How many coach, quarterback changes? How often has Snyder and company tried to buy a win by out bidding for a star. I think maybe, just maybe, Snyder has finally learned a lesson. Money don't fix things all the time. Haynesworth has done a solid job, in fact has done a better job then I expected out of him, but he was not worth the money Snyder paid. We should have been aggressive and fixed our O-line first. Our Defence was ranked top 5 last year. It wasn't pretty, didn't get a lot of interceptions, but it was more then affective. Our offence needs the attention.
Saying that why does everyone want to get rid of Zorn so quickly and start all over again. Just adding to the mistakes that have been made. Losing 1 to 2, maybe even 3 years in the process just rebuilding.
We should stand behind Zorn! He is learning on the job. Allow him to do it. Help him. Get some more offensive coaches on staff. Some with experience. He can't be QB coach, offensive coordinator, headcoach, playcaller, when he did not have experience in most of those job discriptions just over a year ago. Snyder made the mistake, do not urge him to compound it by making another. Lets be patient and suportive. Zorn has many things going for him. Let him build on those and then he can master the rest.
I don't want a reset. It's just another gamble. My love of the team may not stand another stupid Snyder / Cerrato mistake. Instead, focus on front office and get someone that could support Zorn!
Kaisersozaa 10-25-2009, 09:05 AM Shanahan would be a mistake. Gruden could rally the team and get us into playoffs, but dispite his Superbowl win, I don't think he has it in him to rebuild, start from scratch. Dungy did that for him, and he took it to the only place left. And since then nada! Holmgreen is perfect if this was 5 to 10 years ago. I don't know about his age, health, and commitment. I also don't trust anyone that builds a team around one player. If that player gets injured your dead. Cowhler has got the right personality, the right philosophy in my mind anyway.
But I ask, why start all over again. Give Zorn more time and support to get the Zorn vision to a successful place.

Often coaches won't seriously interview for a job that still belongs to somebody else, even though he'll probably be canned after the season ends. Snyder's gonna have to wait out the season.

Why start all over again....so I take it you like losing? Where have you been. Other than Zorn can't lead a team OR MEN, make adjustments, doesn't have any nuts, or can't WIN a game (Which ultimately falls in the HC lap) can't think of many. Zorn is nothing more than just a dead man walking, his title is HC for the minute but he's far from that.
His chances are all but over in DC! Zorn was over his head from day one.
skinsfan_nn 10-25-2009, 05:26 PM Zorn's new role = Dummy standing around on the side line with nothing to do.....HC my ass ;)

Zorn describes his sideline role
For the first time in 23 games as head coach of the Redskins, Jim Zorn will not be involved in play-calling Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles at FedEx Field.
Stripped of those duties, Zorn will oversee new play-caller Sherman Lewis and offensive coordinator Sherman Smith, who will relay the calls to quarterback Jason Campbell, and focus on the big picture of the game.
"It's going to be very easy," Zorn said. "Here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to support the guy calling plays. And then in between the series, we'll be communicating and I'll be communicating to him, and then we'll start working on the plan for the next series.
"I'll be talking to the players. There's a lot to do. I'll be attentive to what I have to do while our offense is on the sideline. Because when you're a play-caller, you're concentrating. ... I'm just going to keep quiet" about play-calling.
Mechanix544 10-25-2009, 06:37 PM well, we'll be fine with Levi Jones to "anchor" the line now, right??????
My Lord, My Lord. Is that all that was on the wire and market????? I guess its better than watching Stephon Heyer and Williams both try to fuck a doorknob with the lights on......... Man, our line sucks more than a 2 bit whore with past due rent.
