12th I kinda believe this a mute point anyway becasue I really don't see Gibbs coming back in any capacity. It is time to rebuild the way the FO is run and who is running it though. I have ZERO faith in VC. He is not good at evaluating anything or drafting anyone. Period. No ifs and or butts about that. See last year's completely wasted 10 pick draft for proof of his NON knowledge of the NFL RIGHT NOW.

Obviously there has to be something deeply rooted in the conscience of Joe Gibbs which somehow keeps him riveted to this organization, and always wanting to be a part of it in some capacity. Whatever that something is in all probability dosen't alow him to rest watching what has transpired since he last left.
Whether it's good, bad or indifferent, if this rumor has substance I will say that it certainly shows an undying faith and commitment to this organization the likes of which I have never witnessed in all the years I have been a fan of this team.
Very good post!

If all he has to do is bring someone, anyone, in then is Gibbs really needed to do that?
Who else would want to?

But by quitting before his contract was up could it be said that he had a pretty good role in creating this mess?

I don't question Gibbs' motive here at all. And I'll reiterate, I'm personally and forever grateful to coach Gibbs for what he accomplished as a Redskin. But at some point we need to stop recycling old personalities, worshipping yesterday's success and simply move on.
Anything that Joe Gibbs does in connection with this organization, good intentions or not, will be problematic for whomever is running the team. You don't get Joe Gibbs in a vacum. People want him involved, but then don't want him involved. They want the Skins to be successful, but they want to somehow put Gibbs' name on it. Shit get's complicated when he's around. For the sake of the long-term prospects of the team, I would rather he stay away.
Hey, let him come back once we get things right. But I just don't think he's the one to get us moving in the right direction.

Gibbs isn't a good talent evaluator anymore, this game has passed him, bring in chris polian, Bill's son and build a team all through the draft, and not free agency and trading draft picks. If Gibbs comes in he should be the team chaplian. He is a better talent evaluator than Vinny though
May have already been stated.....who do you think is going to walk into the Colts office or call Chris Polian and ask him to visit DS at Redskins Park? Please don't think DS is simply going to call GM prospects around the NFL and have them be all giddy about taking the job. I'd bet that if DS called Chris, Chris would take the call....speak with his father if he didn't have any knowledge all ready as to what has been going on and his dad would say "don't take the job". and then Chris would politely decline interviewing for the job.
Now, lets change this story around. Gibbs takes the President of operations job and he calls Chris Polian and lets him know DS is interested in him taking over the team and fixing this mess and that only he(Gibbs) the new GM and new HC would be making all football decisions with out DS.....I have to imagine it would be a more interesting job then simply knowing he was going to the Skins with status quo. Matter of fact I imagine more prospects would be made available when hearing that DS is trying a hands off approach, but willing to spend the money.

What Danny needs to do is grow some balls and select a GM on his own. I personally would go for one of those young up and coming director of personnel guys like DeCosta or Gaines.
Bobby Beathard on ESPN 980 says Gibbs would thrive in the role described in the Florio article. Has been to and is quite familiar with Gibbs racing. "Amazing what Joe has done there".
