artmonkforhallofamein07 10-22-2009, 01:49 PM Honestly, none of them. And this might completely shock some people here, but if I had to choose between Cerrato and Gibbs on a football level today. Right now. It would be Cerrato hands down. I'm talking about take the emotion of meeting Joe Gibbs out of it, I would rather deal with Cerrato.
You just can't replace "right now" knowledge in the NFL. That's Danny's big blind spot and it's hurting this team badly. He's called in Sherm Lewis and now, possibley, Joe Gibbs - again. He seems to believe that success in the past is transferable to today's NFL culture. It isn't.
12th I honestly can't believe you said that. You would take Cerrato over Gibbs in the Front Office? In terms of football knowledge right now, well right now we know that VC can't draft at all, has no way of evaluting needs on the roster, has no idea how to build depth on a roster, is someone most people in the NFL won't work for, has no idea how to manage the team in general, and is an all around tard of a slug for Dan S.
I am not advocating for Gibbs, but at least if he was given the role to build a management team for the Redskins I am all for it. There is nothing in the article stating that he would be drafting players or have much of a say after siad management team was in affect.
VC has no knowledge of the NFL right now either? See the current status of our entire offensive roster. The one he and Joe G built. It is awful. Joe G isn't going to come in here to be the GM, just to put the pieces in place and back away.
MonkFan4Life 10-22-2009, 01:52 PM Listening to Mike Wise, he says that he got a text from Gibbs' PR guy who said that Gibbs isn't coming back to the Skins.

Wait a minute, the current roster? Gibbs left a lot of these jokers behind, including the current starting quarterback, the offensive line, the running backs...want me to keep going?
Trample the Elderly 10-22-2009, 01:53 PM I understand Gibbs wouldnt be picking players but I doubt he's plugged into who the new GM talent is and who are the hot young coaching prospects.
I tend to think this is Gibbs way of making ammends because he left DS in a lurch by leaving early. Had he fulfilled his contract Zorn wouldnt have been the coach.
I also think this is another PR stunt by DS. He know 90% of the Skins fanbase would like this move and it would be some positive news for the Skins.
I really wonder if there is anyone else besides Gibbs who would even take this job.
That's a cynical point of view, and I'm no stranger to cynicism. He doesn't need to be plugged into the hot new GM prospects. He can hire Jimmie Johnson, he can put in Polian's Kid, or he could hire Deputy "mother effing" Dog. Anybody is better than the schmuck we have now! And, absolutely no one wants to come to work for Vinny or Danny, no one except me and skeletor.
skinsguy 10-22-2009, 01:55 PM Because they like the idea of getting the old band back together and re-creating the glory days. It didnt work last time and it aint gonna work this time.
No, I can speak for myself and say I'm not that narrow-minded. I, personally, am willing to accept anything that removes Vinny Cerrato from any kind of football decisions that directly affects this team. In now way, shape, or form should Vinny Cerrato have anything to do with football operations let alone being a GM for this team. He has already proven himself an epic fail. Quite frankly, I'm not willing to accept the same status quo and do nothing to fix our problems, which means keeping Vinny in his position of GM. Personally, I think the only way this team gets better is for Snyder to sell the team to someone else, but since I don't see this happening any time soon, then whatever gets Vinny out of the GM job I will back 100%.

Well that was fun while it lasted. Time for me to jump back onto the "Holmgren for GM" bandwagon.

And there ya go!

I did state that in the last line. I was simply saying that if the report was true Joe wouldn't be coming back to place his hand on the roster: from the report he would be coming in to restructure the FO which he would be good at. I know he isn't a good evaluator of talent. I stated that in the last couple of lines of the post. VC and JG cant put together a roster to save their lives. But I do beleive JG could put together a good FO structure and have good people come and run this franchise. It states he would pick a GM and help in deciding who the new HC whould be. Does it not? It doesn't state anything about him drafting and building the 53 man roster.
Longtimefan 10-22-2009, 02:01 PM Okay, if that's the case then why do we need Joe Gibbs to oversee the player operation if he's not going to be hands on? Why bring him here at all? I would think there are other football minds who are more familiar with the current landscape of assistant coaches and GMs that are ready and capable to take the next step.
Joe Gibbs just seems removed and detached, until Danny calls him, from the day-to-day goings on of the NFL. I'm certain there's a flow of information and exchange that you're only privy to because you're plugged in. That's something you can't just jump in and out of and get real feel for.
I guess to make my point more clear, SmootSmack works for ESPN. I'll bet when goes on vacation and returns to work, all kinds of shit has gone on behind the scenes around the league that he's not up to speed on. And we're just talking about a week.
As far as Parcells not being GM, wasn't it his choice to cut ties with Jason Taylor and then bring him back into the fold? That sounds like GM to me.
Obviously there has to be something deeply rooted in the conscience of Joe Gibbs which somehow keeps him riveted to this organization, and always wanting to be a part of it in some capacity. Whatever that something is in all probability dosen't alow him to rest watching what has transpired since he last left.
Whether it's good, bad or indifferent, if this rumor has substance I will say that it certainly shows an undying faith and commitment to this organization the likes of which I have never witnessed in all the years I have been a fan of this team.

If all he has to do is bring someone, anyone, in then is Gibbs really needed to do that?
