Posted at 3:45 PM ET, 10/10/2009 Redskins Cut Wynn to Make Room for Punter

Renaldo Wynn's second stint with the Redskins didn't last nearly as long as his first. Signed as a free agent last March, Wynn was released by the team today to make room for punter Glenn Pakulak on the 53-man roster.
Pakulak will punt in place of injured Hunter Smith on Sunday against the Panthers. Smith injured his groin last week against Tampa Bay. Pakulak, a 29-year-old journeyman who's with his ninth NFL team, will also serve as holder on field goals and extra-point attempts.
Wynn, in his 13th season, he struggled to find a place on the roster. With plenty of talented and younger defensive linemen ahead of him on the depth chart, Wynn has not been active for any of the first four games.

Wynn, 35, previously played for Washington from 2002-06, a regular starter for the first four years. The Redskins released him and he spent a season in New Orleans and another with the New York Giants before the Redskins decided to give him a shot in the spring.
The team isn't expected to make a corresponding move to fill the empty spot on the practice squad until after Sunday's game at Carolina.

Not a surprise at all. This should be the end of the road for RW, nice guy but just flat out can't cut it any more, but ready for the booth.

Finally, the saga is over. That was the right choice, thank you Renaldo for years of service with the Redskins, you were a class act.

Nice guy class act, but he should of been cut along time ago & we could of kept Dixon or is it Hixon can't remember IMO.

And a pretty good indicator of just how far things have gone awry with the defense this year. Wynn and Daniels were supposed to complement each other to lock down a gap control position in the defense, but Daniels just looks old out there, and his playing time is getting cut significantly for younger players.

There was just no room for Wynn on the field.

That's alright, Golston has been our best most consistent DL this year so far. I would have given him an extension of more than 1 year, now Montgomery on the other hand is fine with a 1 year extension. I've always liked Golston's and Alexander's potential.

Daniels is showing his age. But when you have kids like Jeremy Jarmon stepping up thats a great thing this kid appears to be one of our best draft picks this year, and just look how they acquired him. For next years third, great move.
