Who would you get rid of for 2010?

I'm assuming that the rest of the year is going to go like the first third. Maybe that makes me pessimistic, but I just don't see it happening this year.

Portis' and Sellers' arguing the other day got me thinking about players on our roster who are still serviceable, but probably not going to be a part of the latest rebuilding effort in DC. So the question is, name players that could still have some trade value and/or represent addition by subtraction. Madden rules apply. (no salary cap considerations, draft status, just who needs to go)

My list:

1. Portis. Quite simply, the dude has lost more than a step. He's not really outrunning anyone anymore and his habit of tripping over his own feet when he does break free is frustrating. Couple that with the fact that he doesn't have the physical makeup to be a battering ram and an act that is increasingly wearing thin; and it's time to move on. (i understand this is borderline impossible with the cap)

2. Moss. Inconsistency is the new hallmark of his game. Lazy on some of his routes and hands that are becoming TO-like. Doesn't seem to have the makeup to be a veteran coach type player. Plus, he's one dimensional, once his wheels start to go, it's over. He's still fast so maybe trade him to the Raiders for two first round picks. (oh wait, we're not New England.)

3. Campbell. With our pick in the top 12 of the draft next year, I see us going QB, despite the needs we have at Oline. Campbell just needs to get the hell out of DC. He's a serviceable qb, but he's not going to carry a team with as many holes as the Redskins. I'd love to see a sign and trade for a mid round pick, but I doubt it happens. I can definitely see him succeeding somewhere else.

4. Laron Landry. What have you done in your time in DC? Hmm? Nothing... yup, sounds about right. Despite ridiculous physical gifts, you can't tackle to save your life. You're a strong safety trying to play free. I'm not sure some of the ineffectiveness hasn't been a result of scheme. I mean, does any other team in the league keep the free safety 25 yds off the line of scrimmage? That said, Horton and Doughty are proving to be "good enough" at SS, Landry probably has some value around the league. Really, my hearts not in this one but LL has been extremely disappointing.

I disagree with everyone you picked because I believe that the issues we have can be fixed. If JC shows more promise by years end and we draft o-line that will make Portis, JC & Moss better. Landry just need to wrap up plain and simple STOP trying to be SEAN TAYLOR.

You keep contradicting yourself in item number 4. You keep saying that LL cannot make a takle, but he is better suited to play SS and might have some value somewhere else around the league as a SS.

A strong safety, if he can do nothing else, he had better be a sure tackler. In his rookie year the thing that Greg Williams complimented Landry on was the fact that he was a sure tackler. LL's problem, as pointed out by Redskin Warrior, is not an inability to tackle, but his desire to deliver the big hit like ST used to do. Landry just needs to get back to being the guy that got himself drafted and the guy that the whole defense was saying "we are better with him on the field". Whether he is playing SS or FS does not make a difference, he just needs to do the basic things and the big plays will come.

1. Jason Campbell : He is an utter bust. Call out the O-Line all you want. Call out the receivers all that you want. Call out the systems all that you want. Call out the Coaches all that you want. This man refuses to call his own protections. How can you feel that a play doesn't work when you won't take the time out to learn the calls that will protect you ? He cannot beat a DB with a well timed throw. When he throws passes he has to see a players numbers before he throws it. His apparent accuracy is a joke. How many times have we been treated with the replay of a precise pass by JC. Let alone a precise deep ball that is supposed to be his best throw. There are first and second year QB's that are more acclimated to the NFL game than JC by a mile. The fact that you can have a back rush for over 1,400 yards and still look average. The repeated excuses that I've tried to make for Jason are always shot down on Sunday while watching his play. Whooo was that enough ?

2. Ladell Betts : Useless, plain and simple. There isn't really a use for him on this team. He wants to be a primary back on a team that has one. Hate Portis all that you want, put a QB on this team that defenses will respect and Portis can make teams pay. Bett's may be better suited to go somewhere else to get a shot at being the guy.

3. Fred Smoot : Nothing against him but his cap number is high. If we can lower it then he should stay.

4. Antwan Randel El : See Smoot reason

5. Randy Thomas : Ony reason,...injuries. Hurts me to say it because this guy has been a stud. Even though people blast Snyder for not addressing the line he did bring in Thomas at his prime. The line was actually pretty set also. I swear Thomas has been a great addition to this team.

6. Stephon Heyer : If we can find a stud RT in the draft then go ahead and put a guy there. Keep Heyer but for depth.

I think the scheme has alot to do w/Landry's play and hope Blache will get more aggressive and use him more where his talents can be showcased. Portis stumbles over his own feet and won't practice. Even when healthy. I don't see him as a cancer as much as maybe just a case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. He just pops up every once in awhile and s**ts all over himself and the team. I think Moss is about to have some big games and unless we have a viable #1 to replace him, he has to stay. The young receivers need to step up and Mitchell will hopefully get a chance soon. I really think at this point in the season it may be too soon to make calls on who should stay or go. I would like to draft a RB next year. Portis's act has definitely worn thin and I would have liked to have see him be a leader in practice instead of putting himself above everyone else. Some high picked o-lineman would do this team a world of good. JC has 12 more games and I'll reserve any judgement on him until the end of the season.

Campbell is the only one I agree we need to get rid of, Portis may not be the break away back that we hope he 'd be, but he is still the best blocking back in the league. That reason alone is why I think we can't get rid of him. Moss can still play and is the best of our WR's right now. I agree with pretty much all you have to say about LaRon, but he is still in the top half of the better safeties in the league. I just think its more of blache not knowing how to use him, rather than landry himself. I think Greg Williams knew what he was doing with him, but obviously didn't have much time to do what he wanted to do with him, since he was a rookie, and GW left the next year. I think randy thomas needs to go, as well as daniels, andre carter, smoot, maybe rogers, and rabach.

Smoot, El, Thomas, Collins, Daniels

Those all sounded like good choices to me BB. Here's my list and why.

Randy Thomas. He's done. There's no reason to sign him anymore. He's just too broke up.

Clinton Portis. We need to part ways with him before his wheels fall completely off, not to mention all of the other BS he does.

Rock or Ladell. There's no reason to keep them both. Neither one has proven to be of any value lately. Ladell might be worth a low round pick to a desperate team, but I doubt it.

Renaldo Wynn. Who needs him when we have Jarmon and Orakpo?

Laron Landry. He doesn't know how to tackle.

As much as I'd like to get rid of some of the guys on the o-line, who would replace them? I'd draft o-line starters and keep guys like Raback as depth.

I wouldn't get rid of Soup just to pick up another QB. I'd play the QBs we have, Collins and Colt.

There a few players that are on the bubble like Smoot, but I'd keep them on the roster for depth and to teach the rookies.

What I see us needing is a safety to replace Landry, a beast LB, and o-line men. I think we have everything else. Perhaps a power back? The majority of the players need to come back and play as a team. I wasn't impressed with the powder puff training camp.

oh yeah and Collins, Randy Thomas, Betts, Cartwright, and Wynn were supposed to be givens on my list.

C'mon SS? You cut the only guy who has taken us to the play-offs?
