Our defense isn't so great either

Don't misinterpret this thread. I think our defense has played very well this season and is definitely the bright spot on this team. Despite some big injuries, they've held opponent offenses in check, and kept us in every game.

But I won't refer to them as a GREAT defense. They are still succeptible? to the deep ball. Giants game, Dallas trick play, even Boller could have burned us badly a couple times tonight. Plus I don't care what our rushing D rank is, in the 4th qtr every one in the world knew Lewis was getting the ball and we couldn't do a damn thing to stop him. Same thing in the Browns game, they rolled right through us in the 4th qtr when we needed to stop them most. I know they're tired but too bad. We're not the only team in the NFL with a horrible offense.

Anyways, sorry to criticize the only positive aspect of this team, but I'm angry.

In their defense the offense couldn't keep them off the field.

I agree, it's too early to call them great. However, if we let the personel and the coordinators gel for a few years we could certainly be a force to reckon with.

well the reason this defense is great without Champs, LaVars, Strahans and Kearses is cuz Williams doesn't double team and has guys play forward stuffing the run and blitzing. of course we're gonna be open to the deepball IF we give them the time. the defense is great cuz it does alot with some.

and you cant expect any defense to stay tough till the fourth quarter when the offense goes three and out before you even undo your chinstrap.

ST needs more experience, we need a killer SS, and upgrades at DE would help, but overall i wouldn't say there are any problems besides wearing out and getting run over (we need more depth and rotation i guess... at least until our O doesn't totally suck)...

williams uses the blitz to try and kill the QB before anyone gets deep and the QB has time to hit them... the trade off (vs general cover 2 or deeper coverage packages) is that you sack the deep guys for pressure... both can work, but without extra blitzers, our D line doesn't have a great amount of pressure by itself (the ravens are the same way, believe it or not ;)), so bend don't break strategies wouldn't play as well with our roster... all imho of course, and i reserve the right to be totally wrong and completely off-base.

when you blitz and dont get there fast,, the wr's are supposed to open if they run worth a damn, come on man, why do you think blitzing is a risk?

and im confused about why we go deep once all DAMN game and we do it when its 3rd and 9 and homo deion is play off coles 10 yards, lol, im so confused with gibbs right now.

They're not a GREAT defense yet. They are however very good and they're missing a few of their key guys.

I'm not going to knock the defense at all though. They're done their job and as a unit they've exceeded my expectations.

The offense however hasn't pulled their weight at all and they've hung the defense out to dry with all the stalled drives.

The defense isn't the problem, they're not even a part of the problem.

Without a doubt the defense is doing there job. If the offense had scored just one more TD in each game we lost . We would be in the winning column now.

So true, Matty!

Sure, good, not great, but top 10 and the best unit on the team. Remember, they are without Lavar and Daniels, and they lost Bowen, The left side of the Ravens line is huge and it wore them down. And Jamal is the real deal. We are undersized right now both at D-end and LB, so it was a matter of time. But the D gave them everything the team needed to be in a position to win last night. That's about all you can really ask. Three picks in the first should have produced more points!

I've been REAL happy with the D. The offense continues to put ALL the pressure on the D.

But last night, I thought something different happened. The defense was extremely fired up, swarming, totally stifling the Ravens in the first half. THEN, they took the long MNF halftime break, THEN they did not get on the field until very late in the 3rd quarter. VERY long time to rest and calm down. When they took the field late 3Q, they immediately looked to me like their fire had gone out. They did not look tired, but UNINSPIRED the rest of the game.

Just my 2 cents...
