skinsguy 10-11-2004, 01:12 AM Okay, another game we SHOULD have won but didn't. Yes, the offense again was barely present, BUT considering the fact that our defense played awesome! The Ravens happened to be very opportunistic on a couple plays..othewise we outplayed them throughout most of the ball game. At least we have been in every game we've lost (in fact have led in most of them), and that means we're not THAT bad.
I don't think Brunell is the future of the team, but he is playing smart football. Guys, he's gotta get help from the running game and the Ravens' D is just tough! Forget their rating, when you have a defense that is led by Ray Lewis you have your hands full! I'm not completely sold on Clinton Portis. I think he's better if he is a back that is rotated in and out, but we need a power house back like we had in Stephen Davis...that is a Redskins back that Gibbs needs. I also don't like the fact that Portis is running his mouth about the coaching....he doesn't like being told what to do! I just don't think he's a fit in Gibb's offense...he' going to be good but not in this style of offense. Back to Brunell though...where are all the open receivers? Look how many times a game Brunell has to throw the ball away(wisely)? We have injuries on the offensive line....sending Ramsey in is just a change of pace but this about it. I dunno though..when you're at 1-4 it can get really depressing. We have been worse though.... 0-5.
hurrykaine 10-11-2004, 01:19 AM I don't think we outplayed them most of the game - they ran riot over us in the second half, and we couldn't match their intensity. I suppose the boos from the crowd didn't help any.
The positives...let's see....Cooley and the entire defense. The biggest positive is that we'll get a high draft pick next year with which we can draft a Jonathan Ogden type O-lineman.....anyone come to mind yet?
How about negatives..
I suppose it was worth it to challenge the Brunell fumble, but Gibbs' replay consultant has a piss poor record of winning challenges. Danny Smith has been terrible as a special teams coach. Morton hasn't done squat either, but I believe that's a function of poor blocking by the return units.
PSUskinsfan11 10-11-2004, 01:34 AM at this rate we are looking at another high draft pick that could be a positive. Maybe we could pick up Marcus Spears or David Pollack to help Griffin form some better pass rush with the front four.
wolfeskins 10-11-2004, 01:39 AM they did run right over us in the second half but what do you expect the defense played the best i've seen them play in years, only to see the offense and the punt team give up touchdowns.the d had the wind taken right out of thier sails.
That Guy 10-11-2004, 04:33 AM clinton can work fine here, but the blocking is piss poor... and if you watch chad, he fair catches a lot, but its often because the return blocking just isn't there...
danny smith and the challenge official suck though thus far... brunell isn't getting it done either, instead of telling him to throw it away, i'd really like to just see them take their chances and die with their boots on... all this dink-donk playing not to lose isn't working right now, cause we're just not good enough...
i also saw, for the first time, the defense give up/wear out, which isn't a good sign :( the run D just completely died after being soo good in the start... but we got some picks and overall i'd say its an improvement; they didn't play 4 quarters though... very few penalties is good though.
play calling was a bit better, but very very few deep shots, suspect goal calling and a bad bad onside bluff (if spurrier did that, they'd bite... but gibbs super conservative (thus far) play calling?? when the saw the ravens not take the bait, they should have just gone ahead and onsided or gone to a normal formation)...
i liked that i saw more people involved (jacobs), but we stuck betts in there too much.. this wasn't a team to toss outside against, yet we did it, only with betts (the slower RB) who had no chance, and his blocking sucked in addition to that.
jbcjr14 10-11-2004, 09:16 AM Whoa....let's wait a minute here. I am of the opinion that our defense is GOOD, but it's far from Great or excellent. Folks the skins played their best defense against the Bucs (1-4) and the Ravens (one of the worst offenses in the league). Granted we have 3-4 guys out due to injury, but the defense is not great yet.
From what I saw last night, this team lacks a leader on the field on both sides of the ball. When they got down 14-10, this team went to sleep. They had their heads down, the fans starting booing them and the fell asleep, just like me on the couch from watching this horrible display of offense (if that's what you wanted to call it).
It doesn't get any easier this week with a trip to Chicago. This team could easily be 1-6 heading to the bye week.
Duffman003 10-11-2004, 11:20 AM This isn't good though, the Redskins fans are terrible we boo anyone who we don't like. At least the Eagles fans boo the other team we boo our own team .
redwagonskins 10-11-2004, 11:26 AM I understand the frustration of the fans though. ABout 85,000 skins fans saw Brunell sucking it up out there and it appeared as if no adjustments were being made. Gibbs is going to get the benefit of the doubt but you can't expect the fans to be patient when the team is now 1-4, Brunell is signed long term to big money and just when you think it can't get worse it does.
BTW anyone have a stat on how many TD's the offense has given up and how many the D has?
That Guy 10-11-2004, 09:40 PM redwagon, it depends on how you score it... if you count turnovers that leave the D defending 1 and goal at the 1... i'd put that on the offense
redwagonskins 10-11-2004, 10:16 PM That's what I'm saying, brother!!!!! If you take away the TD's that the O has given up AND the turnovers inside our own 30, our D has given up nothing.
