Well it also boils down to does Marty want to come back, does Cowher want to come here? Do they really want to work together?

I'm going to play devils advocate. Even though they might be the exception to the rule, but three guys off the top of my head that are really nice guys that have Super Bowl rings are Tony Dungy, Dick Vermil, and Joe Gibbs.

With that said the only real "hard asses" that I can think of that have won Super Bowls are Belicheck, Gruden, and Coughlin.

I would quickly add Cowher and Tomlin to the hard ass list. Tomlin is a thoughtful person in interviews and overall I think a really high-character guy, but watch him on the sideline and he's as prickly as they come.

I think thats SmootSmacks point and mine. GMicheals makes it sound like Marty was let go cause no one liked him or could get along with him which is a half truth. Only some of the players could not get along with Marty....the ones who don't like hard nosed coach's. but in actuality Marty was fired cause he wanted to be GM and HC which DS was not going to let happen. Marty said then fire me. ....and he was.

Great point...another hard ass coach who in the end earned the respect of his roster and those guys fight for every last inch on the field.

Just for shits and giggles...does anyone here think lil Danny would get along w/ Coughlin? Would he get along w/ any of the great coaches out there right now? Really? How many great coaches strike you as really nice, easy-going blokes?

Not entirely correct. The contract called for Marty to be both HC and GM but included an option for Snyder to go hire a General Manager. Snyder thought at the time it was too much for Schottenheimer to handle both coach and personnel duties and wanted him to focus only on coaching.

That's not the way it was reported at the time. According to Rick Snider of the Washington Times, Snyder wanted to change the terms of the original contract to get more control over personnel decisions. He also wasn't happy with O-coordinator Jimmy Raye.
