tryfuhl 09-27-2009, 04:57 AM anyways, skins need to win.. I bought good tickets.. look for me 2 sections over from the middle on the visitor's side, lower bowl, 4 rows up
burgundy portis jersey and faded skins hat (prob a beer in hand too)
tryfuhl 09-27-2009, 04:58 AM I'll just be glad when this Sunday is over. You'd think this was the pivotal game of the season or something.
On paper maybe not, but I'd say it'll show a lot of who we are.
44Deezel 09-27-2009, 05:03 AM My biggest concern is Calvin Johnson who has a couple of inches on Hall. I'm confident our rushing defense will be able to contain Kevin Smith. Which hopefully will apply pressure on Matt Stafford to beat us through the air. A rookie QB against our stout defense is our advantage.
On offense, the match up is favorable for us. The Detroit Lions are ranked 27th in total defense. 24th against the pass, and 22nd against the run. I expect Campbell to be able to sit in the pocket comfortably and just unleash. I feel Campbell has more confidence in the shotgun formation. And hopefully Zorn will let him operate from there more often. Redskins shouldn't have any trouble driving down the field, and I expect more aggressive play calling in the red zone. Campbell should be able to distribute the ball to everyone, and Portis galloping over 100 yards and his first TD of the season.
Redskins 20
Lions 14
It's simple. Bracket coverage on Johnson. It works every time. Just look how easily other teams take Moss out of games. I bet it didn't even occur to the Saints and Vikings, but we're smarter than them;)
Sike! He's going to get his. Only the Skins use that BS bracket coverage excuse.

From Sportsline.com - Week 3 Fantasy Football Matchups:
This matchup isn't as easy as it looks for the Redskins, whose offense has been non-existent thus far. One problem: They're not utilizing their receivers properly, something they might be able to fix this week. The Lions' secondary was shredded by the Saints and chewed up by the Vikings, so there are no excuses for the Redskins. Clinton Portis should lead the charge, but the Redskins can loosen up the Lions' defense by quick-hitting passes to Santana Moss and down the middle to Chris Cooley. Even the mostly invisible Malcolm Kelly could find a favorable matchup and deliver some stats. But the Lions have been playing aggressively and might bring a decent pass rush to Jason Campbell, which hurts his upside. The Lions also have a tough matchup as the Redskins have been doing well against the pass. Calvin Johnson should see double coverage for much of the game, and that means Matthew Stafford will have to rely on his other receivers. If Detroit comes out with a heavy dose of Kevin Smith, much like they've done in its first two games, they could control the clock some and move the chains, both of which will go a long way toward clinching their first win since 2007.

Ball control by both teams has got to be the last thing I want to see in this game. Another close game that could turn on one play could be a recipe for disaster. What would have happened if Avery hadn't fumbled in the Rams game? I hate to think about it.
I think it would serve the Skins well to get up early on Detroit so the Lions start thinking "Oh no, here we go again!". If the Skins make the mistake of letting them stay in the game too long, this could be a another nail-biter.
Bigreds77 09-27-2009, 08:41 AM How can I watch the game on my computer? I am a big Skins fan since 1971 but I live in Ohio & cannot pick up the game on TV.
cookskin21 09-27-2009, 09:19 AM justin.tv may have a link check it out...

I concur. I would like to see at least 1 five play drive from the Skins. The NFL is a pass first, quick strike league. They need to develop the ability to get down the field in a hurry. They didn't get through their 15 scripted plays against the Giants until the 3rd Quarter.
SmootSmack 09-27-2009, 09:53 AM Here's the first part of an exchange between SS and I. I didn't know this prior to SS posting it.

What are we referring to exactly? Link didn't exactly work for me
SmootSmack 09-27-2009, 09:57 AM I guess you are talking about Zorn's end of year hotseat last year, and if that's the case, it would be a real bad thing. For me, I just can't believe that Snyder didn't have at least a 2 year window when bringing in a rookie coach. and I can't see him firing Zorn mid season. I agree that if he goes back to the Danny of old, we will a long season of discontent. But I honestly believe, and I'm not putting you in this group Sammy, too many fans out there want to believe the worst in Snyder, and not give him credit for significant changes in behavior that he has made.
I think he has set the team up well, even in the sense that if JC/Zorn don't pan out this year, then we drop the trifecta of VC/JZ/JC and we start fresh with a new front office and a strong Defense. But I also don't think it will come to that, and that this team and coach have the ability to be in every game until the clock expires. I also believe we will win more than we lose.
If that's what we're talking about, then I just want to point out the thought of firing Zorn came from serious concerns that he had lost the locker room (or at least was losing it). It wasn't Snyder wanting to fire Zorn, far from it actually. It was just concern that things could get much worse.
