Skinny Tee 09-24-2009, 02:25 PM when I wrote "posted on a different thread but applies here" i meant, if you read it, or dont' want to re-read it, skip it. its not like i'm trying to hide that fact... its not the difficult to skip it- but the fact is we have like 10 threads about the same topic...upset fans/zorn on the hot seat/upset players/detroit game, etc...sometime posts apply- I am sorry if it bothers you though- won't do it again but I don't see what the big deal is.
This actually isn't an "I'm Upset With Zorn" thread.
It is about the expectations Zorn was to have coming into his first ever head coaching job in the NFL.
Considering he was previously a QB's Coach and then elevated to Head Coach for the first time in his career what did the Redskins Front Office REALISTICALLY expect the success of Jim Zorn to be?...And are they allowing sufficient time to be successful?
(I think Zorn haters and apologists came in here and thought it it was business as usual by making it all about Zorn again.)
Skinny Tee 09-24-2009, 02:35 PM Well, at the end of last season a lot of people were saying "look out, the Dolphins are a perennial contender now. Look at what Parcells has done turning from 1-15 to 11-5." To which I believe my response was "It's been one year, let's see what happens in 2009" And now they're 0-2. Will they still be good in the long run? Perhaps. I think they have a lot of question marks. But they are 0-2.
But it was also to sort of point out that one reason Zorn is on the hot seat is because fortunes can change from bad to good in an incident (and then back to 0-2 again), and the expectation is just about any coach should be able to jump right in and be successful. Not a fair expectation, to be sure.
Thanks for replying to the original question Smoot.
And don't think I'm not reading over you and Matty bustin' my balls about Armstrong : )
(edit)
OMG!!!...LOL...I just saw the poll about the OL in the sidebar. That is effing hilarious!...you sons of b's!
Larry Michael is Satan 09-24-2009, 02:41 PM Why is it not CERRATO on the hot seat??? He's the GM/Pres/WTF-ever who hired Zorn, plus about a million other bad decisions. Impeach Cerrato first, it makes more sense to do that mid-season than firing the coach! Then a new, hopefully competent GM can get a feel for the team and be ready to make off-season decisions, including the fate of ZZZZZorn. Am I wrong here?
We're 2 games in and we're 1-1, I think people need to calm the F down with the hotseat BS.
Monkeydad 09-24-2009, 02:55 PM I'll give you 4 more reasons
Bill Cowher
Mike Shanahan
Mike Holmgren
Tony Dungy
Cam Cameron
Well ok thats 5... I see Cam being a hot offseason name if he can keep the Ravens rolling.
When did HOLMGREN rumors start?
He's definitely not coming here, or probably anywhere.
I don't think Dungy just wanted ONE year off either, although I'd love to have him as our coach.

Vinny is Danny's enabler. He's not going anywhere.

Good perspective right here from Mike Wise on Jim Zorn's job status moving forward:

People are already lining up coaching candidates who are coming to DC next year.
For some reason everyone seems to be fine with that.

The Gibbs 2 years, not a fair evaluation as Gibbs held final say-so on everything and Snyderatto gave Gibbs whatever he asked for. So we really only have last year and this year to work from where Cerrato has full responsibility for personnel.
-FA signing of Dock at a reasonable number.
- keeping coaching staff mostly intact to support a 1st year coach who has never been even a coordinator at the NFL level.
- Horton
- Haynesworth, don't want to jinx him, but so far so good.
- Kelly, looks like he'll be solid.
- Patience in the 2009 draft and winding up with Orakpo
- Thomas, Rinehart, Tyron, jury's out but they're all still on the roster so they can't be total busts.
- Kevin Barnes, solid pick
- Hunter Smith
- Jarmon appears to have been a good choice in the supplemental draft, a lower pick would've been better than a 3rd, OK that's a slight negative.
- Will Montgomery, should be a solid backup
- Re-signing D. Hall, jury's out on that one but had he gotten away it would've been "Cerrato's an idiot for letting D. Hall walk"
So what are the "million bad decisions"?

Good point right here:
Let's be clear: Unless the wheels fall off, Zorn deserves this year to make it work for a variety of reasons. Beyond a fair shot, exactly what does the franchise do in the middle of the season? If Zorn is given his walking papers, you don't merely lose your head coach; you effectively lose your offensive coordinator and your quarterbacks coach, irrespective of how troubling the play-calling has been.
