Ruhskins 09-23-2009, 09:06 AM I totally agree with you, but I'll play devil's advocate.....Kendall knows the offense already. I think thats why people are even mentioning his name.
Yes but bringing aging replacements for the line is how you end up with one of the oldest line in the league (which I think we were in the past). Once again, putting Rinehart in is building through the draft, we drafted him, developed him, and now he needs to be tested in real game situations.
SBXVII 09-23-2009, 09:12 AM Why sign a O-Lineman if there are no O-lineman out there better than what we have on our roster. I think if there was a O-Lineman out worthy to help us we would bring him in. Quality O-lineman don't just sit around 32 teams would be signing them in a heart beat. We signed Alridge because he brings speed to the RB positon.
Don't get me wrong I'm all for bringing back Alridge. I'm all smiles now. Prior to season I felt we should have kept Mason and Alridge and let one of the older RB's go. Obviously it wouldn't be Portis cause he was our #1.
In regards to your comment about O-lineman, I have been asking since Sun. who is out their that we could bring in only cause back in Feb. it sounded like the team (Buges) was not impressed with Rineharts technique or blocking. I still find it funny that a week after the comment was made they could not say enough about him. What changed? I'm all for using our draft picks. I'm excited they are and hope he works out. Then we have MW Tackle/Guard as back up or spot fill in to give guys a break and the Rookie Ed Williams from Maryland who can play Center/Guard, but if one more gets injured then we will be in panick mode to get someone in and trained. That my only point. Why can't we bring in some one from another teams practice squad who is a Rookie to train? It's not like we have to look at people who are not on a team only.
skinsfan69 09-23-2009, 09:16 AM this guy can't be trusted to hang on to the ball. i mean he had the ball in the wrong arm when he fumbled the kick off return in pre season. it's certainly correctable but god that's football 101.

As I just pointed out why can't we look at other teams Practice Squads and pull from their O-lineman Rookie class. Our's was picked last yr right. Mason was pulled off our PS and put on Baltimore's PS. I'm sure we could let someone go off the PS and fill it with a Rookie O-lineman from someone elses PS, or cut Betts/Rock and pick one up, or trade Betts/Rock for someone elses #2 or #3 O-lineman who needs a RB.
Hello Dallas, Chargers, ....anyone else?
celts32 09-23-2009, 09:23 AM I love this move, but it's meaningless unless they are actually going to carve out a spot in the offense for him.

I think you need to revisit the play. Alridge was moving the ball from his arm closer to the tackler to the arm away from the tackler. During the process he was hit by the helmit (1 in a million hit) and the ball popped loose. It wasn't like he was running up the field next to the sideline and decided out of the blue to change arms. Alridge had just decided which way to run and after turning started to move the ball and got hit. He probably could have covered the ball with both arms and simply taken the hit and been tackled but he was trying to make a play. In order to stiff arm the defender he had to move the ball. I call Fluke.
but since you are so concerned about fumbling....what are you going to do with JC? I presume with your way of thinking we should cut him cause he left the ball hanging out there for the defenseman to swat at and take to the house. That's go to be epic failure.....right? What do we do the next time Portis fumbles? cut him too?
As someone stated earlier, fumbles happen. Thank god Alridge only did it during preseason when the games don't count. He learned a lesson. Hope he controls the ball better and move on. We need the speed and no one else is available that has his speed and knows our offense.

They didnt just start praising Rinehart, they have been talking about him since OTA's. "He is much improved over last season" & "When he played with the starters he raised his level of play", I remember hearing both. Going forward we still have W.Montgomery(C/G), Edwin Williams(C/G), D'anthony Batiste(T), and Mike Williams(G/T) so even with another injury, we dont just bring in somebody off the street. Granted there is no O-line on the practice squad, but we do still have people to plug in. We kept the extra O-lineman so this just evens things out.
Problem is......NOBODY keeps 5 RB's on the active roster!
CRedskinsRule 09-23-2009, 09:38 AM I would add, that we already went and got another body earlier - Robinson, who is now on our practice squad. So we do still have a rotation available if another injury strikes. But lets face it, alot of the Giant's success stems from the fact that they have not faced injuries along the OLine.
SmootSmack 09-23-2009, 09:44 AM I see you are in offseason rumor mill form there SS. LOL. :laughing-
Furthermore...Alridge was just on the Texans' roster. And which former head coach rumored to be a candidate to replace current head coach's ex offensive coordinator is the head coach of the Texans, and whose son is the current offensive coordinator of the Texans?
(still think Shanahan ends up in Dallas personally)
KI Skins Fan 09-23-2009, 09:45 AM There were several good points made in this thread that I support.
1. I'm happy to have AA back. I think we need someone with exceptional speed who can attack the edge and maybe hit a home run or two. The coaches and the FO may have taken advantage of a rare opportunity to correct a mistake they made when they cut him.
2. As Ruhskins said, I would rather that the FO made the best moves they can under the circumstances rather than to just rush out and pick up an OL. Haven't we criticized them in the past for making panic moves? It seems to me that there is some learning going on here. We don't know what they're working on. They might be working on a deal to move a RB for a draft pick or something.
3. As skins89moss pointed out, he can't help us unless Zorn uses his talents in games. I too have been disappointed in the failure of the Redskins to use all of their weapons.
