SirClintonPortis 09-27-2009, 05:52 PM While the D looked sloppy at times today (got to stop those 3rd down conv), you cannot expect them to carry this team game after game. The Skins' time of poss is horrendous, eventually it is going to take a toll on the D.
The D helped contribute to the loss in the TOP battle by botching multiple oppurtunities to make a stop on 3rd down.

Exactly

The defense played a huge role in the time of possession. They allowed a rookie QB make them look like a mediocre-to-poor defense. I am starting to believe that Blache's scheme simply stinks. The man has repeatedly said that sacks are overrated. In my opinion, Blache is simply wrong. We don't produce pressure and so we don't produce big plays, despite having guys like Haynesworth, Orakpo, Fletcher, and others on defense. The defense bends, bends, bends, and occasionally breaks. While they don't let teams score 30 points on a consistent basis, they consistently fail to get a lot of 3 and outs and don't make the plays that they should.
Moreover, there are telltale signs of poor coaching. How many missed tackles have we seen over the past 3 weeks? That's Coaching 101. It's one thing if DBs are biting on play-action to often, it's quite another if they can't tackle. I just don't have any faith in this defense.
Beemnseven 09-27-2009, 05:54 PM Yeah, where the hell is this pass rush? Where is Andre Carter? Where is Philip Daniels?
Wasn't AH supposed to open things up for these guys?

Yes our time of possession was horrible in large part because the defense couldn't stop the Lions on third down. We can't expect them to win the games for us but they have to at least tackle and come to play!

Ask Blache that question and watch him blow up, like he did on Comcast (?).
GTripp0012 09-27-2009, 05:58 PM Carter's not winning his one on ones like he was last year. Golston hardly needs to be blocked. Whatever Daniels had left in terms of rushing the passer is gone. You have Haynesworth, you have Griffin, and if Orakpo doesn't come, you have Carter not really embarrassing himself out there.
I like Lorenzo Alexander. He needs more playing time, and frankly, he can play any position on the line. He has to start at this point.
GTripp0012 09-27-2009, 06:00 PM Surprisingly, Blache is blitzing less than last year...which would be great if we had last year's personnel. Having a four man rush while Phillip Daniels and Kedric Golston are on the field essentially means that either Haynesworth or Carter have to beat their matchups or there is no pressure.
When Orakpo AND Carter AND Haynesworth come, we get good pressure on the quarterback. But the DL rotation has not worked out well.

True. He used to bring the safeties and the corners. Now he thinks he is going to get to the QB with a 4 man rush. Blache is a idiot. Talks a good game but is dumb as hell. Eventhough we acquired some new toys he should have still stayed relatively close to the defenses Greg Williams used to call. The old defensive scheme was working for the most part. I am sure Greg Williams is watching the game shaking his head and laughing his ass off.

Great Post! I'm tired of Blache getting a pass. We need o-linemen but instead we give him more and more weapons to work with and can't get off the GD field. Our "D" made a rookie QB look like an all-pro. He needs to be held accountable and I'm tired of his BS excuses. And how F'ing smart do you have to be to play Orakpo at DE?
