Trample the Elderly 09-14-2009, 01:10 AM Since I didn't get to watch the game, maybe I'm a little more pleased than most. The NFC Beast is the hardest division in football, and the G-spots are on top of the division. I didn't get to check the score after the fake FG, and we were down 0-17 before that. Looking at the stats, JC had a decent game against one of the most dominate front four in the league. I did notice a lot of 10-15 yard plays going for the Giants, but it really looks like we clamped down on them the second half.
Bottom line: It's game one of a long season and if we stayed close with the Giants, we can run with any team in the league.
Observation: Two seasons ago we couldn't finish a game to save our lives, I hope this years problem isn't starting the game slow. HTTR!!!! Semper Fidelis!!!!
Semper Fidelis!
bigant 09-14-2009, 08:02 AM bring in shannanhan and center it around j snead ,then again all four qbs are better then the dope we have now...
irish 09-14-2009, 08:05 AM It would be a huge mistake to change coaches. The Skins change coaches too much and there is no consistency. Zorn needs 2 more years to see if he can do the job.
Its still obvious JC will never be an elite QB. If he had a great O line and great WRs I think he could be a servicable QB but herew in DC he doesnt have those things. Its obvious Zorn has no confidence in him (based on how he called todays game) so I suspect the Skins will be looking for a new QB for 2010.
irish 09-14-2009, 08:09 AM Zorn is a double threat as a terrible coach. 1. He is a terrible motivator. The Redskins were not confident whatsoever and if you cant get hyped about opening week against a division rival what game are you going to get hyped over. 2. He is an absolute terrible play caller. The first play from scrimmage, everyone blocked effectively and Portis ran for 34 yards. The very next play, He called a trick WR pass with Randle EL. This gave the momentum right back to the giants and the skins never seemed to recover from that.
Zorn is a bit too laid back IMO but I think if the players need him to get them motivated for opening week vs a divisional rival then its the players that have the problem. I really now believe that the core group of players are unmotivated losers who too easily accept defeat and make excuses for not executing. I know it can never be done but I really think the Skins need a total house cleaning of a large group of players.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Anyone who lays a lot of blame on JC for that loss clearly has made up their mind on him, regardless of what he does. Look, I never expect him to become Peyton, Brady, Brees, Warner, Rivers or any of the other top 5 QB but he'll be a top 12-15 guy in the range of Schaub, Eli, Cutler (yes Cutler), Hasselbeck. So I agree that he's never going to be elite, but who are you proposing we bring in to replace him that is elite? We know what we have in Collins and please don't start with the guy who barely held on to the 3rd string job before getting IR'd.
Zorn is out of his depth. He's going to look really good over the next few weeks in winning games that we should win but in games vs. the top teams and coaches, it's clear how over matched he is. The Giants suited up 3 CB yesterday. THREE! How are you not running them all over the field? Why are you running dive plays down 2 possessions on 2nd and 8? Why are you calling for a WR pass on the 2nd play from scrimmage? How do you not call at least one fade pattern with 1st and goal inside the 8? How do you call a WR screen on the 5!?!? Zorn lost my confidence in the preseason with how he handled the starters in the preseason games as if we were coming off of a Super Bowl run and both units were clicking on all cylinders. Yesterday reinforced my thoughts and doubts.
Kalisto2010 09-14-2009, 10:26 AM I want Colt McCoy and Mike Holmgren to be our new coach and QB. I'll settle for Shanahan or Cower too.
cdskins26 09-14-2009, 10:29 AM Yeah im surprised theres not so many of these after one whole game where we lost on the road to a top 5 team where we played a B game. Nothing wrong with Zorn. We may need to look at a guy like McCoy or Bradford next year but lets worry about this one first.
franklinhimself 09-14-2009, 10:44 AM There were a bunch of problems with Sunday's game. The turnovers, some terrible secondary play between Hall- who just looks pitifull (wish springs was still on the roster) and Landry- he's immature and he's a better SS than FS. We drafted him to be the prototypical SS next to Taylor, and that combo probably would have dominated.
The O-line wasn't terrible against the likes of the Giants D-Line. But it's only WEEK ONE!
Next up: Rams, Lions, Bucs, Panthers, Chiefs.
We can get 3/4 easily, and I think we can beat the panthers if we learn how to stuff the run. Our own running game seems to always take 2-3 games to kick into high gear anyway.
We have the next two games to really get things going into some good rhythm.
That's what I'm looking forward to.

I generally agree with you, but the 3rd down play where Tuck sacked Campbell (I believe) there was a fade route on, but Kelly ran it horribly. I also don't think it was the first read.
I remember the replay seeing Cooley not really run much of a route, Randle El not open and Kelly damn near running the fade all the way out of bounds. He needed to give Campbell more room to throw the ball, if he had thrown it there was probably a .5% chance Kelly comes down in bounds.
I haven't lost faith in Zorn as you have, however, he does need to make a lot of adjustments. It's time to become a passing team.
Monkeydad 09-14-2009, 10:56 AM His first half stats were 10 YPA and 8/11 passing. Those are actually even better.
You are an idiot.
You forgot the "/thread".
First post is completely idiotic.
