skinsfan69 09-11-2009, 11:33 AM It's only one game, but what I saw last night was that the Titans pass rush has paid dearly for the loss of AH. They may have a "younger, cheaper" version in there now, but sometimes you get what you pay for.
They got 4 sacks and gave up 13 points. I think every NFL defense would take 13 points. When Pittsburgh went to huddle Tenn just wore down and got tired. You're going to see a lot of that the first week of the season. But it did look like they could've used AH in there. But they didn't want to overpay and I don't blame them.
#56fanatic 09-11-2009, 11:45 AM I'm just thinking ... as the game is about to kick off tonight..
Why exactly are the Tennessee Titans a legit contender and we are a joke when someone picks us for the playoffs?
What do they have a QB? at WR? Is there defensive players better than ours?
Is it a coach thing? An organization thing?
When I look at their roster, then at ours, I just am puzzled...
honestly?? because they are a good football team. Not saying we aren't, but who knows what we will do this season. They play mistake free football for the most part, the head coach is one of the best if not the best in football. He takes a team filled with good players and makes them a great team. they have no superstars, just solid hard nosed players. They have been good for many years, and we have not. I am puzzled why people on here keep putting us with the elite teams in the NFL when we are not there....yet. take off the burgandy & gold glasses and be realistic.
SmootSmack 09-11-2009, 12:07 PM Part of what makes Jeff Fisher "great" is that he's had the opportunity to stick it out for so many years in Houston/Tennessee. Some of his greatness is really longevity. His teams though have finished .500 or less over half his career.

That's why I am hoping JZ gets to stay on for many years. Coaching stability, not high priced big shot names is what we need. Unless he shows total ineptitude, we need to give him time.
redsk1 09-11-2009, 12:47 PM If you just count Jeff Fisher's most recent 10 seasons:
He's won at least 10 games 6 of them
Won 13 games 3 times
12 once
11 once
Jeff Fisher is the best coach in the NFL. He was in complete rebuilding modes some of those years too. I would be the happiest fan in the world to have 5 11+ win seasons in a 10 year span. Wow. It's really unbelievable when you think of it.
That's why, I've been saying in the last couple years how I'm a little sick of having a team that is mediocre year after year. I'd rather rebuild for a couple then to always think we're right on the cusp if we just add this or that. Are we really on the cusp of a SB? I think we've got a good team, i just think we've got some holes in our team that will hold us back.
The Jeff Fisher teams, the Bill Belicheck teams always play for not only this year but the future as well. The future is very bright.
By the way, Jim Schwartz IMO will be a great coach in the NFL. I said it back before we interviewed him and I'll say it again.
dgack 09-11-2009, 01:14 PM Personally, I'm not really on board with the whole NFC "Beast" thing. Dallas is very suspect, and we're just mediocre right now. Philly could make a case for themselves, and the Giants are right there with them, but have some flaws here and there.
I actually think the NFC North might be the best division. Chicago, Minnesota and Green Bay are better than the top three in our division.
It's not just anecdotal.

I know some don't care for stats for this kind of comparison, but you can find a lot of evidence to back up the claim that the Beast really is the toughest division in football.
Beemnseven 09-11-2009, 01:30 PM And I'll bet money the Titants don't make Chris Johnson the highest paid player on offense when his contract comes up. RBs don't win championships. My GUESS (facts be damned) is that the better run teams don't put as much money in as few players as we seem to do, which affords them the luxury of depth. If so much money is tied up in Haynesworth on D and Portis on O, I would think that hurts our ability to have quality depth at as many positions, so when our ALL-WORLD draft picks want to get paid, we have no choice but to pay them. Steelers, Pats, Titans, etc. seem able to let those players walk without skipping a beat. Again, just wild speculation on part. Don't care enough to back up my argument with petty facts;)
Exactly. Geez, I really don't want to open up another Portis debate, but you're right -- running backs rarely make the difference and we have way too much invested him. He'll probably get the all-time Redskin rushing record, and that's nice, but what do we have to show for it?
In the end, the age-old axiom still holds true -- it usually comes down to your quarterback. And what are we all saying this year? It all comes down to Campbell. All the 1400, 1500, and 1600 yard rushing seasons from Portis so far haven't taken us to the Promised Land. Think about it -- when was the last time a running back has carried the team on his shoulders to a Super Bowl? Many here would point to Riggins, and Cowboy fans would say Emmitt Smith. But recently, it's all been about your QB and your D.

Good point! How long has Jeff Fisher been coaching his team? Longer than our last three coaches combined, and a testement to structure and stability.
If things do not start well for us this season, we're going to again see what seperates us from teams that consistently contend year after year. We will again be talking about a new or different coach, a different QB and who knows what else, all signs of instability.
A laughing stock we not be yet, but as long as we continue changing the guard year after year we can continue to expect more of the same.
Beemnseven 09-11-2009, 01:37 PM I find this hilarious, the NFC East is by far the strongest division in football...no doubt!! You gotta be kidding!! And dont forget to add Detroit to your equation.
It's not just anecdotal.

Right. It's not just anecdotal. That's why I added up the total number of wins by the top-performing divisions. The NFC East was tied with the AFC East and AFC South in win totals. And the NFC South beat everybody.
Look, I'm not saying this division is complete crap. I'm just not buying all the hype, and I believe this year we'll see a decline.

It's not like the Redskins shortcomings aren't spelled out for them. Everyone I listen too says the very same thing in describing the way they do business. With this team "and it's fans" if things don't happen for the good overnight, straight to the wagon of change they go seeking refuge which all too often has failed to deliver. We need to give hope a chance.
