CRedskinsRule 09-06-2009, 09:08 PM Well, if you follow the draft at all, you would have heard of Woodson. Perhaps you forgot him?
I think Chase might be better, but I thought at the time (2008 draft) the Redskins would have been better off with Woodson than Colt Brennan. Anyway, Chase (as somewhat of an unknown quantity) is on an active roster right now, and Woodson is not (though Chase is behind Mark Brunell in NO).
I thought Chase went to NO's Practice Squad, not their active roster (per PFT, so maybe its wrong)
JWsleep 09-06-2009, 09:09 PM Wow. Lots of acrimony for a thread about the PS... easy fellas.
From what I gather, Zorn and Vinny wanted Chase for the PS, but Chase got an offer to go to NOs PS and went. Given the offense in NO, not a bad move by Chase, though I think the conventional wisdom is that Chase really is too small. Whatever. He was undrafted for a reason. Once the FO decided to go with 2 QBs (a smart move, IMO--there's a fair number of decent vets out there...), Chase was gone.
As for the kid from the gints, why does anyone think this is some "big move"? It's smart: we're playing the gints, we get a guy from their team to run the scout team in practice. If Bellichick does this, everyone crows about what a genius move it is. We do it, and it's more evidence of our stupidity. Whatever...
GTripp0012 09-06-2009, 09:11 PM I thought Chase went to NO's Practice Squad, not their active roster (per PFT, so maybe its wrong)He's the third QB, from what I understand. He took Harrington's spot on the roster.
Checked their official website, and Chase is not on it anywhere, yet.

Nah, he went to their PS:

The Washington Post reports the New Orleans Saints have signed free-agent QB Chase Daniel (Redskins) to their practice squad.
Which of course means we could call him back if we got in a bind.
stu_nna 09-06-2009, 09:13 PM The fact is if Zorn and Campbell don't have what it takes this year (I think they do) then they will be gone, we will be getting a new coach who will bring in his own qb. He wouldn't live with Zorn's 3rd string as his starter. So in this case the 3rd string concern only matters IF JC/JZ succeed. Overall, its such a non-issue during the season, when was the last time we called on the 3rd string qb for more then 1 game? Can you tell me? I can't, but I am sure it hasn't been in the last 5 years. Go figure.
We are doomed. Stupid FO, Stupid Zorn. STUPID.
And why are we doomed again? Because we cut Chase? I'm not buying the national media spin that this will be Zorn's last year. It seems to me that they like to create the own "coaching hot seat". I believe Zorn deserves 3 years minimum. Its hard to grow a strong foundation with turnover every year and i think Snyder and Cerrato both know that.
The only way Zorn isn't here is if we have a less that 8 wins.

The doomed line was true sarcasm. Having 2 QBs is a reflection of JZ's comfort level with JC. We will see Sunday, but I believe this offense is gonna see a vast improvement, especially early when the line is at its peak.

I agree....The constant hiring and firing is why this team is stuck in a constant flux. This team will never win anything as long as we continue to change coaches every time we don't win Mr. snyder's coveted SB within two yrs......pitiful
Hail to the Redskins 09-06-2009, 09:48 PM The main/only reason Zorn is mentioned on any "hot seat" is due to three things...
1. Bill Cowher
2. Mike Holmgren
3. Mike Shanahan
If these guys weren't "out there" ... you wouldn't hear it. But, with those guys possibly coming back into the league next year... you hear that Zorn "better win."
A really interesting twist in the whole thing is if things go bad, Holmgren could come in to run ship, with Zorn moving to OC... but there's PLENTY of time for that...
My opinion... it SUCKS we lost Dixon & Daniels...
What I love... Daniel is listed at 6'0". There is another NO Saints QB listed at exactly 6'0"... you may have heard of him... Drew Brees anyone??
Daniel could VERY EASILY be Drew Brees 2.0. Similar college careers, similar build/height... so why is Daniels too short to be an NFL QB????
I DON'T GET IT!!!
SC Skins Fan 09-06-2009, 11:06 PM Woodson had a QB rating of 38; Chase had a QB rating of 115.
Who CARES how you play - all that matters is to be the right height!
BTW - in the latest WaPo article BOTH Zorn AND Cerrato said they wanted to keep Daniels. Confusion????????????
I think you misread the situation slightly. Daniel was not cut because of his height. The Redskins FO made a calculated risk, believing they could get him on to their PS, only carry two QBs on the active roster, and use that spot to carry an extra o-lineman. Now that is not to say that they should not be chastised for the decision. I have no clue why Mike Williams is still on this team. He never should have been signed to this team and the Redskins should have drafted o-line depth in the 5th or kept Jon Jansen instead of relying on this guy (and signing Williams did impact those other moves, which makes the Williams signing just that much worse). Now they are just hoping that a bad decision somehow turns around but in the process they have now lost another player.
Signing Andre Woodson was not done because he is 6'5", he was just an available body and he was signed to cover up for losing Daniel. In my opinion, as you can see above, the original sin here is the signing of Mike Williams.
